Out against Tsonga

04.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Unfortunately Roger lost his quarter final match against Jo Wilfreid Tsonga today 7-5, 6-3, 6-3. Our champ could only bring 58% of points on his first serve which contained no aces. Combined with 34 unforced errors there was only one way this match was going.

“This is obviously a crushing loss," Roger said following a quick shirt change. "I struggled a little bit everywhere. Personally, I'm pretty sad about the match and the way I played. Jo-Willy played great today. He was better than me in all areas . He returned better than I did, served better than I did. I struggled to find my rhythm. I'm just disappointed I couldn't put in a better match. Missing smashes goes hand in hand with missing so many other things," said our champ, who was broken six times during the contest. "Should have never gotten broken (after being up) 4-2 (in the first set). In hindsight now that's obviously a huge game for me, and things didn't go well from then on for me today."

Roger’s next contest is at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle (Germany), starting on the 10th June.

JODOUG: You said Nadal always beats Roger: "roger can be fresh as a daisy and nadal playing on one leg. nadal wins. nothing to do with logic, it's all mental. we have seen it for years... physically he is or was capable lots of times just didn't do it.”

At 2012 Cincinnati, Roger's level was very high from winning 9 titles in 10 months. Had he maintained this momentum into the past 10 months, he might have captured 2012 Year-End No. 1 and done better at 2013 Australian/French Opens.

JODOUG, Roger-Nadal rivalry has 5 periods:
1. Nadal dominates Roger: Roger 1-6 Nadal [2004 Miami to 2006 French Open]
2. Roger dominates Nadal: Roger 5-2 Nadal [2006 Wimbledon to 2007 World Tour Finals]
3. Mono, back problems, confidence stopped Roger from dominating Nadal after 2007:
Roger 0-5 Nadal [2008 Monte Carlo to 2009 Australian Open]
4. Roger regains balance: Roger 4-5 Nadal [2009 Madrid to 2012 Indian Wells]
5. Roger 'disinterested': Roger 0-2 Nadal [2013 Indian Wells etc.]

JODOUG: Faster-moving Nadal-Djokovic FO semifinal (335 points) is more draining to 27-year old Nadal than slower-moving Nadal-Verdasco 2009 AO semifinal (385 points) to 22-year young Nadal.

Why should young Nadal be dead tired at 2009 AO? Nadal not lost a set in previous 5 matches, Nadal under less mental pressure (breakpoints Nadal 20-4 Verdasco; Nadal owned mentally-weak No. 15 Verdasco on hardcourts), after Friday night semifinal Nadal had 2 days to rest for Sunday night final.

JODOUG: How could Roger beat Nadal at 2009 AO? From 2008 Madrid Indoors to 2009 Rome (Fall 2008 to Spring 2009):
- Roger won only 1 title (Basel) in 10 tournaments
- this period he had back problems (back fixed by 2009 Rome).
- it's unlikely Roger was 100% fit and confident just one year after mono bout.

Roger was inconsistent at 2009 AO: 5-setter against No. 21 Berdych (Roger lost first 2 sets). 5-setter against Nadal (Roger served 51%, inconsistent, fizzled in final set).

not the stunning performance of previous matches that's for sure, but then Jo didn't play well against Ferrer yesterday, so everyone has a bad day. No worries. Looking forward to seeing you play at Wimbledon soon, all love

Hola Roger!!!!
Vamos a disfrutar Halle.
Te queremos

Roger plz complete the formular to beat nadal. my think
on yourserve-->1.serve wide 2. attack 3. attack 4. if he neutralize and you are not in good position to attack, then send deep fastball to nadal's backhand, it will give you short moon balls 5. attack or if you cannot, send deep moonball 6 if he attack back, return deep moon balls 7 if he return short, attack 8 repeat without making unforced errors.

on nadal's serve-->1.return with your backhand deep moonball 2.moonball 3.attack 4 repea

Roger plz plz absorb Nadal's moonball tactic with your attacking style. be aggressive on your serve but when nadal neutralize, you can't just give up, go moonball battle until you get another chance to be aggressive and repeat it. on nadal's serve, you play nadal style tennis, you don't attack but moonball to neutralize but you gotta send moonballs to as deep as you can. what's good about moon is that it doesn't result in net errors. look how nadal and djoko play, they never net errors. plz
