Out against Tsonga

04.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Unfortunately Roger lost his quarter final match against Jo Wilfreid Tsonga today 7-5, 6-3, 6-3. Our champ could only bring 58% of points on his first serve which contained no aces. Combined with 34 unforced errors there was only one way this match was going.

“This is obviously a crushing loss," Roger said following a quick shirt change. "I struggled a little bit everywhere. Personally, I'm pretty sad about the match and the way I played. Jo-Willy played great today. He was better than me in all areas . He returned better than I did, served better than I did. I struggled to find my rhythm. I'm just disappointed I couldn't put in a better match. Missing smashes goes hand in hand with missing so many other things," said our champ, who was broken six times during the contest. "Should have never gotten broken (after being up) 4-2 (in the first set). In hindsight now that's obviously a huge game for me, and things didn't go well from then on for me today."

Roger’s next contest is at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle (Germany), starting on the 10th June.

Well Roger, you have eight (not counting masters) tournaments un til the end of the season, all of them mtch your strenghts and hide your only tennistic weakness (backhand with a high bounce), if you dont loose your focus and have in mind that you are the best there is, independent of age you will win all these tournaments and silence all the press that says you are shadow of what you were. Just get a couple of enfatic wins against the other less-top-than you guys and it will come naturally.

Good luck at Halle Rogi. Good to hear you're partnering Tommy in doubles: my two favourite players!

Notice Djokovic not playing Queens; Nadal not playing Halle - they're killing each other!!

It's unlikely that Nadal will win 17 slam titles. Why? In 136 years of slams since 1877, no man has won more than 5 slam titles after his 27th birthday (versatile Roger won 5 slams since age 27: 2 Wimbledon, 1 French, 1 Australia, 1 US). For Nadal to win 17 slams he has to break Roger's age record (of 5 slams) by winning 6 slams after his 27th birthday. Nadal is already 27, so this latest French title counts among the 5. Nadal looked shaky in this year's FO. How long can he rely on FO?

BOTING: ‘Nadal lord of slow-wet clay courts’ avoided Hamburg Masters before 2007 (slowest, coolest, dampest clay Masters where Roger won 4 titles). Roger beat Nadal in 2007 Hamburg final (2-6, 6-2, 6-0). 2008 Hamburg final, Roger had 5-1 lead and was to serve for first set -- but Nadal called timeout for leg massage (Roger, rebounding from mono, fizzled in third set 5-7 7-6 3-6). In 2012 FO final, Nadal lost 8 straight games in rain to Djoko and desperately demanded match be postponed.
