Wimbledon: the draw

22.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger faces a truly tough challenge for the defense of his Wimbledon crown this year: he could meet Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals, Andy Murray in the semis and then Novak Djokovic in the final.

Roger will open his quest for an eight title on Monaday against Victor Hanesecu of Romania (ATP 47), against whom he has won all five encounters so far. Sergiy Stakhovsky (ATP 117) or Rogerio Dutra Silva (ATP 102) could follow in round two.
Fabio Fognini (ATP 30) and Nicolas Almagro (ATP 15) would then be possible opponents before an explosive quarter-final against Rafael Nadal - this year's no.5 seed.

It is a great draw. Always have to meet that Bull on clay and that is why the H2H is so skewed. Now our Maestro can meet him earlier when grass is still greener and not dead so better for our champ who can handle the slippery condition much better than those needled knees the other one have. I really think it is a good draw after all.
Good luck to you Maestro. Just be happy and be yourself. The whole world is watching. We all know you play a clean game. Go do your usual . Bonne chance.

FancyFree: You and GoodMama are each entitled to your very different opinions. Given the info on the Grand Slam draws:
- "facts and statistics presented strongly indicate that draws might have been fixed at the very top of men’s tennis for the past four years"
- "there is significant evidence here that these (draws) did not come from a random draw"

I am not worried about the draw but.. I was worried to see the webmaster post a picture of you with the trophy before the games have begun. Omens and all.... JUST keep being your focused self on the court. Let no names and stats distract you. You are going to win this thing and all your opponents will fall away. Here's to 18! Time to grow up! I pray for your success and send you love and best wishes.

on this website called "RANDOM THOUGHTS OF A LURKER" they have a lot of fed & family pictures and info. i laughed out loud when i saw this headline "ROGER FEDERER GETS THE DRAW FROM HELL AT WIMBLEDON". i thought that is so funny but so true. we are all hoping he can get through it as he did last yr when he had djokovic and murray. i think of it this way, we thought he had a good draw at FO. didn't work out. so maybe when he has what we think is a bad draw it will work out well.

as every player would like to be a Wimbledon champion just once.
No-one can take your 7 Wimbledon trophies from you, nor indeed doubt if any of the present players will ever reach half of that number . certainly NO-ONE has your talent something that can NEVER be taken from you.
Roger I wish you all of the very best
I shall, as usual, take one match at a time whilst we enjoy watching tennis as only Roger Federer can play it
Kindest regards
Margaret chronic fan

I think that there were approximately 14 spectators BUT we felt then and there 'here is a future great tennis player full of talent' I rather think that my friends thought that Marg 'has lost it' when I asked Roger for autograph, which he quite happily gave me.As they say the rest is history which I have followed from that day until today. Friends would call and teasingly tell me that my friend was playing wherever!!
Now 10 years later,Wimbledon is here again--no draw is easy especially

Roger, we believe in you. You can do it again, good luck. Love you.

DO not be intimidated by your opponents. These are the same players you beat last year. You know too well their strengths and weaknesses.

Hello Roger
Well, well as you said in one of your recent interviews the past 10yrs has passed quickly--could not agree more as I was court side to watch you win your very first Wimbledon crown--it WAS SO exciting [we were also there when you beat Pete Sampras]
We first watched you play in Switzerland--we were in the UK as trained nurses studying post graduate-- had saved very hard as one of our colleagues knew Lleyton
Hewitt & the late Peter Carter]some of us came from South Australia
