Out in Wimbledon

26.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger suffered his earliest defeat at Wimbledon since losing in the first round in 2002 today. He lost his second-round match against Sergej Stakhovsky 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 5-7, 6-7(5).

"It's normal that after all of a sudden losing early, having being in Grand Slam quarter-finals 36 times, people feel it's different. But I still have plans to play for many more years to come," Roger said.

Roger started well and secured the first set in the tie-break. But Stakhovsky went on to take the second set tie-break to level. Not being able to score a break himself, our champ was broken in set three - enough for his opponent to finally take a lead in sets. Roger fell back another break in the fourth set, but this time he managed to level at 3-3. Unfortunately he did not make the points in the final tie-break, falling back 2-5 and eventually admitting defeat after just three hours of play.

It was Roger's first defeat by a player ranked outside the top 100 since losing to Richard Gasquet (ranked at 101) in Monte Carlo in 2005. He will now fall back to at least number 5 in the world rankings.

Food for thought ..... http://www.express.co.uk/sport/tennis/411301/Setback-or-the-end-for-Roger-Federer

The only positive news here was soon after Roger vacated the house he was renting in Wimbledon and I would imagine back home "grieving".

Roger,
You've been on the tour so long that other players watch a lot of you tapes and develop strategy to beat you. Anacone has not been much effective in helping you to win matches. I hope to see you win a few more slams, but a new coach and fearless attitude and mixing-it-up preparation might help. Good luck.

I just now got cheered up after seeing this new Gillette commercial, seeing all old outfits of the maestro reminded me of the great times --

Have a great break maestro and come back fresh. Allez :).

Hi, Roger! Hope you are fine. But the most valuable question is how is your beautiful wife Mirka? If you really want to play at the very top, do you? Then first things first, love your wife. No matter what, do always remember the first rule - love your wife. Do what she has on her heart and you will conquer all after that. And even if you wouldn´t win any match after Wimbledon you could always all day say I won the most valuable thing - love. And that´s the most valuable trophy you will ever wi

For as true fans this defeat is the greatest thing that happend to Roger in last year.
Rogers attitude changed after rise to no1 and wimbl win. His ego got the better of him so this crush will do him good. Roger is not old or lacks desire, but hates change or unknown and when he is on top he sleeps there. What I see now is Roger putting the effort in gym and on the court to get to the top of his game especialy return game where he really trails behind other three. Its gona be great. Best wishes

gives courage to see you play well, you have the potential but you do not have the desire or attitude, seems a failure. I hope dropping to sixth year below so that your sponsors push you and when you see your contracts at risk decide out to play as before because as I say you have the ability but lack the attitude
and courage ashamed to see so

ITSANKUR / FANCYFREE

Roger will defly slip to 6, below nadal, he is going 2 lose more than 1700 / 1800 pts which r much higher than current diff with nadal.
Berdych lost 1st round last yr....he is already in R16...so he will be gaining pts, depends where he finishes. So Roger may be @ 7.I dont remember how much pts Roger gained by being runners up at Olym, 750 or 1700 - this will also b taken out soon.
Not sure his plans...ranks matter in draws in GS / M 1000....

JODOUG

Sergiy got a bit un-stak against Melzer. And as he said, 'No one can take that win over Roger away from him'. Oh well if I was a journalist, I'd say, 'No one can take this humiliating beatdown by Melzer away from you either'.

That's exactly what i keep telling myself....Roger didn't enter Wimbledon this year.

Come back stronger oh gorgeous one.
