Out in Wimbledon

26.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger suffered his earliest defeat at Wimbledon since losing in the first round in 2002 today. He lost his second-round match against Sergej Stakhovsky 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 5-7, 6-7(5).

"It's normal that after all of a sudden losing early, having being in Grand Slam quarter-finals 36 times, people feel it's different. But I still have plans to play for many more years to come," Roger said.

Roger started well and secured the first set in the tie-break. But Stakhovsky went on to take the second set tie-break to level. Not being able to score a break himself, our champ was broken in set three - enough for his opponent to finally take a lead in sets. Roger fell back another break in the fourth set, but this time he managed to level at 3-3. Unfortunately he did not make the points in the final tie-break, falling back 2-5 and eventually admitting defeat after just three hours of play.

It was Roger's first defeat by a player ranked outside the top 100 since losing to Richard Gasquet (ranked at 101) in Monte Carlo in 2005. He will now fall back to at least number 5 in the world rankings.

Roger, I am so sad for you, Wimbledon is not the same without you. You will always be my number one. I still think you are capable of winning a Grandslam.
I think people should appreciate that you have never taken time off for illness or injuries as others, that is an achievement in itself.
Ignore the negative remarks what is important that you are happy with your life, nothing else should matter. Good luck in your next tournament xxx

learns what is important in life--winning a tennis match is NOT one of them.
As I have often stated on RF .com, I love your tennis, admire to you as a person both on and off the court and could never thank you for all that you have done for our game of tennis and sport in general. On a personal note you have given me so much pleasure/hours watching your brilliant tennis. I look forward to many many more!
Enjoy your break.
Kindest regards

ADI1008 & FANCYFREE.. thanks for your share. I watched the match live, and did read interview of Roger about this tactic. I watched and played tennis for a long time, knowing well of this tactic, and IMO we no need to apologise cus we did't mean to hurt anyone, it s a game. But it a bit annoying me when those brought this to rerun and attack him as unsportmanship. In fact, I dont want him to lose his temper while playing cus quite often he lose when he did.

their all--may win and usually disappear in to the sunset. The sun set & rose again the world has not ended.
It was a good match just not your day. However, you say that physically you are fit which is important, you have a lovely family, wife and 2 gorgeous twins and a loyal hard working team AND hundreds of records trophies etc--I have no doubt that you will add to those.
To those who wish to critisise you may I suggest that they go and work [as I do] in a hospital where one quickly
