Out in Wimbledon

26.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger suffered his earliest defeat at Wimbledon since losing in the first round in 2002 today. He lost his second-round match against Sergej Stakhovsky 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 5-7, 6-7(5).

"It's normal that after all of a sudden losing early, having being in Grand Slam quarter-finals 36 times, people feel it's different. But I still have plans to play for many more years to come," Roger said.

Roger started well and secured the first set in the tie-break. But Stakhovsky went on to take the second set tie-break to level. Not being able to score a break himself, our champ was broken in set three - enough for his opponent to finally take a lead in sets. Roger fell back another break in the fourth set, but this time he managed to level at 3-3. Unfortunately he did not make the points in the final tie-break, falling back 2-5 and eventually admitting defeat after just three hours of play.

It was Roger's first defeat by a player ranked outside the top 100 since losing to Richard Gasquet (ranked at 101) in Monte Carlo in 2005. He will now fall back to at least number 5 in the world rankings.

HELLO PAUL ANNACONE BLAMERS!!!

MR.ANNACONE CANNOT GO IN THE BRAINS OF MR.FEDERER
BECAUSE PA IS JUST A TENNIS COACH!!! A COACH HAS NOTHING TO DO
WITH THE PHYSICS OR MENTAL STATE OF FEDERER. PRIVATE CIRCUMSTANCES
BACK INJURY AL THOSE THINGS WILL NOT BE SOLVED BY ANY COACH.

Roger Federer is tennis.
However,as we are ALL human there are always going to be days, weeks when we are not able to perform the way we would like apart from those who EXPECT you to do so. Roger you have raised the bar of tennis so much during your career and now so many would like to be able to tell their children whoever that they beat this great man /player RF. They have plenty of time, not playing weeks, months years at the highest level, study your game and go out and give it

I think Roger is giving us a feel of how things will feel after he retires...WHENEVER that'll be.

I've seen some headlines saying there's no buzz around Wimbledon now...i certainly feel that...i was going to go today as its usually nice the middle Saturday.

Of course with whats happened in not going to now as one person said its WimbleDONE for this year.

Missing you Roger, xxxx

Hello Roger
I have NEVER been, nor would I EVER be an armchair 'know it all' when I have not been in the position myself --in this case a brilliant tennis player having won 17 grand slams playing on one the biggest and full stadiums in the world with millions upon millions watching you via TV world wide.
No one could have been more disappointed FOR you a couple of days when you lost in the second. Naturally I was disappointed for myself as well as I love the game of tennis so much and IMO

In this case, it's okay.

Modesti, they wanted to make a joke, I think that is not rude. He wanted to be Roger Federer, I am sure about that.

Stakhovsky and Meltzer have said that?! How rude.
Well, these statements are proved why they are not champions on and off the court.
Roger, forget everything and enjoy your holiday. Good Luck.
