Out in Wimbledon

26.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger suffered his earliest defeat at Wimbledon since losing in the first round in 2002 today. He lost his second-round match against Sergej Stakhovsky 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 5-7, 6-7(5).

"It's normal that after all of a sudden losing early, having being in Grand Slam quarter-finals 36 times, people feel it's different. But I still have plans to play for many more years to come," Roger said.

Roger started well and secured the first set in the tie-break. But Stakhovsky went on to take the second set tie-break to level. Not being able to score a break himself, our champ was broken in set three - enough for his opponent to finally take a lead in sets. Roger fell back another break in the fourth set, but this time he managed to level at 3-3. Unfortunately he did not make the points in the final tie-break, falling back 2-5 and eventually admitting defeat after just three hours of play.

It was Roger's first defeat by a player ranked outside the top 100 since losing to Richard Gasquet (ranked at 101) in Monte Carlo in 2005. He will now fall back to at least number 5 in the world rankings.

I do agree with RAMCHARAN, I think with both Severin and Paul that there could be a bit of a conflicting message. Let's face it, Roger will not remove Severin, so if anyone would be going, it would be Paul.

Just throwing it out there, what do you think of Jim Courier as a new coach? He has done wonders for the US Davis Cup team.

he is a coward shy of a coach roger needs a disciplined strong natured coach

Cont.
Before he used speak straight-forward (though true from his heart) that sounded arrogant to some people and media. Since Annacone, he is little diplomatic like others before media. That's also an important thing. Also the coach and his family has a good relation with the player's family then it's more beneficial. So if Roger is ok with him, there's no reason to replace.

i hate toni nadal too but roger didnt become complacent he needed motivation and this is the coach's task to give him motivation.what use is a part time coach to roger? roger needs to recheck his mentality with a new coach

roger has to be dominant on hardcourts because the majority of tournament are played on them he need to change his coach

I don't see a reason for Annacone to be replaced. Its just that Roger just got too complacent after achieving his biggest goals last year. Moreover Annacone is not his full-time coach like others. He participates only before bigger events. Its Severin who's with him all the time. Also personally I hate coaches like Toni and the like... They're ruining this Gentlemen's game and taking it in a wrong direction. Also I noticed Roger's approach in press conference changed after hiring Annacone. Before

i think u are somewhat right about connors rogers a gentleman and he needs a gentleman but i already said that roger played well and he wasnt to be blamed nor his coach but since 2010 that rog hired him he has won just one slam its about the future grass is the most probable surface for upsets.

I don't agree with everyone calling for Annacone to be replaced. Look at the stats of this match, it is the cleanest match Roger has played in a long time. You don't change your coaching staff because of one freak loss.

Even if Roger was considering a change, I couldn't see him ever getting along with Connors. Too brash and in your face, they would butt heads. Remember Roger is very stubborn, and he would need to be led to a different playing style. Not bullied into it.
