Out in Wimbledon

26.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger suffered his earliest defeat at Wimbledon since losing in the first round in 2002 today. He lost his second-round match against Sergej Stakhovsky 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 5-7, 6-7(5).

"It's normal that after all of a sudden losing early, having being in Grand Slam quarter-finals 36 times, people feel it's different. But I still have plans to play for many more years to come," Roger said.

Roger started well and secured the first set in the tie-break. But Stakhovsky went on to take the second set tie-break to level. Not being able to score a break himself, our champ was broken in set three - enough for his opponent to finally take a lead in sets. Roger fell back another break in the fourth set, but this time he managed to level at 3-3. Unfortunately he did not make the points in the final tie-break, falling back 2-5 and eventually admitting defeat after just three hours of play.

It was Roger's first defeat by a player ranked outside the top 100 since losing to Richard Gasquet (ranked at 101) in Monte Carlo in 2005. He will now fall back to at least number 5 in the world rankings.

One of the best Italian tennis journalist Gianni Clerici suggested that Roger won many Wimbledon because his opponents weren't able to play well on grass. Well, if they weren't: certainly Roger was. So simple. About losing by a player like Stakhovsky: who knows sometimes on the court what is going on. The proof: Sergej on the next his game played like he used to do as a number past hundred and lost.
If you could replay with him many times you wouldn't lose not even once. Go your way Roger.

After Roger got out in second round, I didn't take a look at this year Wimbledon. Without you, I am not intrested in the match.

Wait for you come back, Roger. I wii witness your 20th grand slam.

Fancy free !! I see !

I was not aware that. Murray said " it's the end of an era" for. Roger!

These young pups !!

I have warmed to. Djokovic I think he is funny and animated on court! I really hope if he meets. Murray in the final that he whips him good and makes him cry!

Murray needs to know he can never match. Roger!

When Roger wears his shirt " there is no finish line". There is no END! Roger will go on and remain in all our hearts FOREVER!!!!!

Don't understand why they scheduled Novak on Court 1 and Ferrer on Center court. So disrespectful for the No 1 seed... Also, Ferrer or Delpo doesn't have that great history here nor are they local boys...

I just feel that an offensive interview of player becomes more and more right after Gulbis said he would like tennis interview to b more like in boxing.

SHATIR,

Actually I didn't read the actual transcript from Murray's interview... Just posted my view based on the comments here. If the tone is not arrogant, then that's fine... But definitely didn't like Stakovsky's attitude in that post-match interview.
