Out in Wimbledon

26.06.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger suffered his earliest defeat at Wimbledon since losing in the first round in 2002 today. He lost his second-round match against Sergej Stakhovsky 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 5-7, 6-7(5).

"It's normal that after all of a sudden losing early, having being in Grand Slam quarter-finals 36 times, people feel it's different. But I still have plans to play for many more years to come," Roger said.

Roger started well and secured the first set in the tie-break. But Stakhovsky went on to take the second set tie-break to level. Not being able to score a break himself, our champ was broken in set three - enough for his opponent to finally take a lead in sets. Roger fell back another break in the fourth set, but this time he managed to level at 3-3. Unfortunately he did not make the points in the final tie-break, falling back 2-5 and eventually admitting defeat after just three hours of play.

It was Roger's first defeat by a player ranked outside the top 100 since losing to Richard Gasquet (ranked at 101) in Monte Carlo in 2005. He will now fall back to at least number 5 in the world rankings.

Murray's statement about Federer was definitely not arrogant. He said something like "The levels of consistency and domination, we probably won't see that again."
That's a fair statement to make, although it's a personal heartbreak for me every single time Federer loses.
The dizzying levels of consistency and domination Federer achieved are next to impossible for ANY player to match! I do hope our maestro bounces back to win more slams.

Novak's antics are much better than Nadal's on-court antics... Novak's fist-pumping is less frequent than Nadal's during a match. So IMO, that's less annoying than some others on court...
As for Murray's arrogance, he should better know that whenever he makes such remarks against Roger, he'll come back and whip him... Remember Shanghai 2010, he made similar careless remarks after that final and you know what happened at WTF 2010...

Lucky you Rachel! As for Djokovic his manner. An opponent gets a shot past him and he claps as if this is so unusually good to have got past him, his over use of the clenched fist and his facial expressions. Yuck!

Murray is arrogant and can't be forgiven for say in the last few days that it's the end of an era for Roger.

That leaves six other possible contenders for the title and I hope it's one of them that wins!

Why does he keep that unsightly stubble? So ugly. Roger would never appear in public like that.

2008 Nadal beats Roger at Wimbledon..Roger will never win another Grand Slam,
Roger gets married... has children, Roger will never win another Grand Slam, Roger loses the odd match.... Roger will never win another Grand Slam... so 1 US Open, 1 Australian Open, 1 French Open and 2 Wimbledons since 2008 are obviously figments of our imagination!
Some people under estimate our Champion.
