Roger to play Gstaad

02.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

I'm really looking forward to playing in front of my home fans in Gstaad this summer. I have got a lot of great memories of the tournament in the mountains of Switzerland.

No problem The real Mrs RF!

I really hope our Roger does try a slightly lighter, larger headed racket! I think it could greatly help him even up the playing field out a little bit! It would also show his willingness to constantly adapt in the aim of improving his game, which would be another reason to praise his continued services and love for the game!

Come on Roger!!

Thanks KENTY,

Great insight into the racquet sizes etc ... Strange the Roger chooses to use a heavy and smaller one. Lets see if he makes any adjustments.

Anything, even small which can make him get his super rhythm back. I'm looking forward to seeing him...even more so since wimby.

Xxx

.... Roger also uses the heaviest racket on the market, which compared to to the other top dogs means that his margin for error in the the timing of his swings is a that little bit smaller than the rest! Again putting him at a small disadvantage straight away! The fact is he is getting older, he is a tiny bit slower around the court, his eye sight is probably not as perfect as it has been, and yet he continues with his original racket! It's not cheating, Roger, it being realistic!! Try a 95'!!?!

Good news Roger!! As far as Roger's racket is concerned, I've been convinced he needs to change it for a slightly larger head for ages!! I play with his racket and I can tell you that it's so much harder work than other rackets on the market. He uses a 90 inch head, whereas most of the other top pro's uses a 98 inch racket head. This obviously increases the sweet spot of the racket, improving the consistency of all your shots. Hence why Roger mis-hits the ball more than most. He NEEDS to adapt!!

NJYON - well remembered... I was wondering the same and also how much larger is the modern racquet to the one Roger uses, does anyone know?

Would be nice to know what the top guys use, any ideas??

Is there some merit in Roger changing to a more modern and bigger racquet? Is he giving other players an advantage by not doing so? Johnnie Mac reckons he should be doing just that. Pete Sampras when he retired wished he had made the same change. The fact that he still beats most players is a reflection of his greatness...but...I just wonder if this would give Roger a new edge?
