Hamburg: the draw

15.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger is back on court in Hamburg - a clay-court tournament he hasn't participated in since 2008. He won the tournament four times in the past:
2002 (victory against Safin), 2004 (victory against Coria), 2005 (victory against Gasquet) and 2007 (victory against Nadal).

After a first round bye our champ will probably play against the winner of the match between Germany's Daniel Brands (ATP 53) or Italy's Paolo Lorenzi (ATP 70) on Wednesday.

In the second round, he could meet Latvia's Ernests Gulbis (ATP 36) before an encounter against Alexandr Dolgopolov (ATP 24) is possible. In the semifinals, Poland's Jerzy Janowicz (ATP 17) could be his opponent before a clash with Germany's Tommy Haas (ATP 11) in the final.

"At Wimbledon, it was strange to go out so early and I didn't know what to do," said Roger about his participation in Hamburg and Gstaad. "But I had a clear plan 48 hours later to play at Hamburg and Gstaad."

If Roger gets on ok with his new racquet, who knows what shock waves a new, more powerful Roger will cause! His game is good and he is coming into his rhythm again, with a bit more power given by his racquet, he could certainly gain no.1 next year again. I do not think it is his priority, but as he enjoys winning games, he will end up being no. 1 again. He will be my number 1 forever, whatever happens!

ya its difficult for him to get 1 this year but if he wins us open and London then he can back no 2 position as novak is far ahead or novak plays bad and loses his points

No 1 is possible next year for our Champ. Also it'll be a tight race next year as Murray will be in contention too, especially if he wins Aussie Open, then he'll be serious during Clay season, which he's not that bad (did well in 2011). We'll see anyway, but winning the first match tomorrow is the first step...

Silly question! Of course he will! Yes I noticed the size of his racquet in the photo.

Just now read a thread that says "Will Roger Federer regain his No.1 ranking?"

There are a lot of speculation on Roger changing of racquet. Compare Roger's with Haas' (photo on home page), Haas' one is much bigger than Roger. But not sure if Roger was holding the old one...

Anyway, good luck for the tournament Roger!!
