Hamburg: the draw

15.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger is back on court in Hamburg - a clay-court tournament he hasn't participated in since 2008. He won the tournament four times in the past:
2002 (victory against Safin), 2004 (victory against Coria), 2005 (victory against Gasquet) and 2007 (victory against Nadal).

After a first round bye our champ will probably play against the winner of the match between Germany's Daniel Brands (ATP 53) or Italy's Paolo Lorenzi (ATP 70) on Wednesday.

In the second round, he could meet Latvia's Ernests Gulbis (ATP 36) before an encounter against Alexandr Dolgopolov (ATP 24) is possible. In the semifinals, Poland's Jerzy Janowicz (ATP 17) could be his opponent before a clash with Germany's Tommy Haas (ATP 11) in the final.

"At Wimbledon, it was strange to go out so early and I didn't know what to do," said Roger about his participation in Hamburg and Gstaad. "But I had a clear plan 48 hours later to play at Hamburg and Gstaad."

1-Hello my beautiful wonderful Roger, how are you? I'm so happy that you're playing in Hamburg, I've been missing you terribly, can't wait for your match day.

All the best for this tournament, use the good memories, center your strength and think about your success, draw confidence from the many positives throughout your career. Stay focus and fight. Just go for it.

2-Never mind the stupid disambiguation's that some close minded people like to apply, stuff like 'the Roger from the past' and 'the Roger from today'. That's nonsense! If you are different now a days is only for the better, you are a better, stronger and more capable player, you've added to your arsenal. We are the same surrounded novelty nothing else. And at times some change and turmoil is for the greater good in the long run.

3-The fluctuations around are just that. You are still the same great successful champion and your capacity and talent are right there, use all you've got with confidence, just let it flow.

Have massive self-esteem and self assurance. Use it all.

Roger you can conquer every goal you set for yourself to reach. You are an amazing player. You have all my support and I'll be cheering for you through the way.

I love you so much Roger…

Good luck champ, I just now read your press conference excerpts and I read that you texted Andy Murray to congratulate him even when you were on vacations ---
