Hamburg: the draw

15.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger is back on court in Hamburg - a clay-court tournament he hasn't participated in since 2008. He won the tournament four times in the past:
2002 (victory against Safin), 2004 (victory against Coria), 2005 (victory against Gasquet) and 2007 (victory against Nadal).

After a first round bye our champ will probably play against the winner of the match between Germany's Daniel Brands (ATP 53) or Italy's Paolo Lorenzi (ATP 70) on Wednesday.

In the second round, he could meet Latvia's Ernests Gulbis (ATP 36) before an encounter against Alexandr Dolgopolov (ATP 24) is possible. In the semifinals, Poland's Jerzy Janowicz (ATP 17) could be his opponent before a clash with Germany's Tommy Haas (ATP 11) in the final.

"At Wimbledon, it was strange to go out so early and I didn't know what to do," said Roger about his participation in Hamburg and Gstaad. "But I had a clear plan 48 hours later to play at Hamburg and Gstaad."

While we're on the topic of when we fell in love with Roger, I'd like to share my moment.

I was always a fan of the style and elegance and of course shot making ability but it was when he won that 5th Wimby (beating Nadal) was when my i knew. Roger was/is the Choosen One for Me. I fell is Love BIG TIME.

Since then the passion as only grown.

Looking forward to your match today oh handsome one...i am optimistic that you'll be fine against DB.

I was speaking to a friend the other day who didnt have many positive things to say about you and your game. I told him to just wait and watch, i know you'll prove him and the haters WRONG!

Looking forward to seeing you in action with the new racket :)

With lots of prayers and kisses

Like CJM I hadn't really tuned into Roger until a few years ago, partly I think due to having the tiniest of analogue TVs! So since then my thirst for more and more of him is unquenchable! He puts a smile on my face and that must surely be good! X

me too. i began to watch Tennis when Roger played AO 2006. i just rewatched the vidoes of AO 2006 and 2007 final as i am waiting for Roger on court again. what a good way to refresh memory. i clapped my hands when he got a point. it is a pity Marco Baghatis and Fernado could not keep on their good run. They were interesting players to watch. All the best Roger for Hamburg

CJM

I totally agree. He is SO HANDSOME, but this short haircutt is to be honest a no no.
Now he looks just like anyone else (WHICH HE IS NOT !!!). He was (en is) so special because with his curls he looks different than the rest.

So.... I am hoping for his curls to grow back.

Then... he is NOT and NEVER allowed to cutt it off again, ever !!!

I am another who did not follow tennis until Roger. I went out of my way to avoid Wimby! In fact, as a result I missed his career until about 2007. Then I put on the TV and Roger was playing and I was smitten. As time went by I then I realised he not only played beautiful tennis but he was also a lovely, down to earth, intelligent man who was also very handsome and seems to get more so as he gets older !

Dearest Roger,
Best of luck for your first match tonight! Though there will be no broadcasting where I live, I will keep sending you the best of my positive energy.
I love your photo with your friend, Tommy. Both of you look so nice.
God bless you and your beautiful tennis.
Keiko
