Roger win first match in Hamburg

17.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger won his first match in Hamburg today, defeating Germany's Daniel Brands (ATP 58) 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2.

It was Roger' first match with a larger racket (his Wilson racket now has 632cm2, previously it was 581). His serve was very strong, especially in the second set - where Roger won four out of five games to love. Our champ broke once in the second set and twice in the third to reach the third round in Hamburg, where he will meet Czech Jan Hajek.

indeed who will argue with that but helas these days you cannot win titles anymore
with just beautiful shots.

That's ok. First he needs to get his game to No 3 or 4 in the short term and then to No 2 and then to top level... It's as expected.. He can't play incredibly well (without mistakes) after that shock-exit and then with this new racket. He'll be there slowly... Also he added these tournaments for practice. He might be hitting some shots to test something (speed, spin, footwork etc), but we'll see.. Aug-Nov should tell something..

Yes, Boting, but he also showed that none can compete with him as the most beautiful game, I've seen shots in one match of Federer that I'vent seen in all Wimbedon tournament.

I watched some of the match today. Congratulations Roger. One day at a time. Some have observed that your game is"far away from No. 1 and No. 2 " and I agree. Your game is Roger Federers'. Keep working on what you have to do. It will get better. You are a great student of the game and that makes you committed to improve. You are the holder of 17 Slam titles. Rest up now and be ready for tomorrow. Best wishes. Congratulations again for the win today.

Federer showed several times during the match that his game is still far away from the nr.1 and the nr.2....

Congratulations, dearest Roger, for winning over Hajek. Couldn't get the livestream, but it seemed like a beautiful match. Your new racket seems to be doing a good job so far.
Good luck for the next round.
Always with you,
Keiko

Congratulations on your win Roger. Well done. On to the next! I hope you are feeling more at home with the racquet. It is such a big change for you.
Unfortunately and very frustratingly I could not watch your match. German TV showed the Tommy Haas match before yours and then stopped broadcasting tennis! They had shown highlights of yesterday's match, so I was not totally Roger less! Nice outfit and more than happy to see a few curls emerging! Come on Roger, good luck tomorrow.
