Quarters in Hamburg

18.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger easily advanced to the round of the last eight in Hamburg, defeating Czech qualifier Jan Hajek 6-4, 6-3 today.

Roger had some trouble with his game in the beginning, but nevertheless secured the first set 6-4. He continued to raise his game, not allowing a single break-point in the second set, eventually closing out the match with his sixth match point.

He will next play Germany's Florian Mayer (ATP 45).

great win for fed. it usually takes a player a few events to get used to a new racket. when djk went to head it took time. so we should not overly expect for now. these 2 events are for testing. maybe by the USO he will be close to feeling as comfortable as he needs to. but journalists will criticize every shot right now. all players get leeway except fed. djk, "tired" at SW19. fed, "bad" at olym. both played delpo over 4 hrs then murray. excuse for only djk & fed is 6-8 yrs older than all 3.

Congratulations, Roger. It was a most enjoyable match to watch and looks as though you are getting to grips with the new racquet. Also that you are plenty confident to practise set and match points! Good luck in the QFs.
