Roger in semis

19.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger reached the semifinal of the German Open Tennis Championship in Hamburg with a 7-6(4), 3-6, 7-5 victory over Florian Mayer today.

It was hard work for Roger all the way, he won the tie-break of the first set had to drop the second. In the third set, he scored a break twice to take a lead but the German broke back at both occasions. Roger finally went on to close the match, holding serve after another break in the end after exactly 2 hours of play.

Roger will now play Argentina's qualifyer Federico Delbonis (ATP 114) in Saturday's semis.

Dear Roger,
It was a very tough match yesterday and fortunately, you did it. I'm really happy that you managed to do it and you're in semi-final now. I believe you can win this tournament, it would be wonderful. Best of luck for today's match! Go Roger!

This is a long-term 'building' project. We can't jump to conclusions after a few matches. Florian Mayer beat Nadal in straight sets in Nadal's best year (2010), Mayer's best surface this year is clay, and he won a clay challenger event in early July.
Tennis writers like tennis magazine's Peter Bodo (see link) are taking advantage of what's happening to put down Roger as a player in a state of crisis, claiming his problem is not the new reacquet (see link).

Good stuff Roger.
Onwards and Onwards.
All the best in the next round.
Always tough to play someone you have never played before, particularly in semi-final.
Go Hard

against a very good player--heartiest congratulations & full credit to Florian for his superb tennis, also.
I do not intend to comment on whether you experienced back stiffness or not. What I will say is that fans, commentators whoever should should be very careful before stating whether it is back pain or whatever as pain can be and is, in many instances deterred pain.Leave it to Roger and his 1st class team to comment if they wish to do so
Good luck for the SF
Kind regards

playing @1/4 past 5." The players started much later due to longer matches before them.Roger's match finished @ 22.00hrs.
One could notice that it was getting cold as spectators were wrapping themselves up in coats etc even towels for warmth.
It is very difficult to play in such conditions especially in the pms when temperatures can and do drop quite suddenly.
Roger it was always expected that this match would be a good test for you even without delays, cool weather etc--you won.

asked pre QF who he would like to play in S/F, Mayer or F Lopez, Roger replied "I hope it is Florian--I like playing against him. He is a VERY interesting kind of player with a lot of variation in his game. He won easily both matches against Hewitt & Tomic in Davis Cup. I will be happy to play against him in the next round"
In his post Q/F interview Roger said "that the conditions were cold & hard, sand was wet. Not what we expected @ the beginning of the day--we thought that we'd be

Hello Roger
That was a great match with some superb shots from both players particularly 1st set. You, yourself excelled in the the last 2 games of 3rd set .
Many on this site and perhaps elswhere, forget that a tennis match is NOT always about Roger,it is about the OTHER person as well, therefore credit should be given to his opponent when they play well which Roger always does
Florian Mayer is an excellent player who has defeated both and Murray & Nadal in big tournaments. When Roger was
