Out in Hamburg

20.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger was defeated by Argentine qualifier Federico Delbonis 6-7(7), 6-7(4) in the semifinals in Hamburg today.

"He played well, he was a little more aggressive," Roger said.

Our champ took a 2-1 lead to start with, but was broken right back and had to save two set points to take the set into a tiebreaker. All looked good there as he took a 4-2 lead but did not manage to convert a set point before then dropping the set. Roger had to keep up the fight, defending break points right in his first service game. Eventually taking the set into another tiebreaker, Roger committed a series of errors before Delbonis wrapped up his win.

Next up for Roger is a trip home as he will play the tournament in Gstaad in the Swiss mountains next week.

Hard Luck Roger, you still played a great match inspite of the fact that your back was wrapped up. I just now pics of red colored strap on your back ---

I didn't see the match, but looking at the score, he wasnt out of it. He hung in there all the way to take it to a tie breaker. That is progress, but his opponent is a qualifer. I saw him play against Verdasco and V should of taken him out. Maybe he'll make it to the finals next week. I'll utube the match and judge for myself. Was he beaten or did he lose on unforced errors?

Also, I would like to request all fans to wait till Toronto and see the result there and after that say what you like about him (Give him sometime. the tournament was on clay after all, his worst surface..)

I understand what you want to say about Roger giving the best he could, well giving the best you can doesn't mean you can't do any better... In all sports every sportsman does his best in the day of his competition but the result may just not reflect that and if that was Roger's limit today, tomorrow his limit will be higher than this, there's always a space for improvement..

In the recent past Boting I have placed emphasis on family ties in post match comments. That still holds and in fact they will be increasingly stronger as his girls grow. However Roger also has legal contracts with sponsors and his Foundation so that's added pressure.

Something has to give and it to me looks like his game. He cannot do everything and if he tries to, then it will harm him.

Roger has oodles of talent and will probably win a few more tournaments but I have no expectations.

not very unpredictable

Unfortunely something is not ok with our champ. I mean is not quiet aggressive, and also seams to have some dificulties to finish the points.. But i'm sure that he will become more stronger and he made us prouds and happy once more...

We all should be used to of such results from Federer.

Players now a days read their opponents, I would say again the Roger's game is not very predictable, and forehand is no longer that strong.

It happens....

I pray that he stays healthy for the remaining season.
