Out in Hamburg

20.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger was defeated by Argentine qualifier Federico Delbonis 6-7(7), 6-7(4) in the semifinals in Hamburg today.

"He played well, he was a little more aggressive," Roger said.

Our champ took a 2-1 lead to start with, but was broken right back and had to save two set points to take the set into a tiebreaker. All looked good there as he took a 4-2 lead but did not manage to convert a set point before then dropping the set. Roger had to keep up the fight, defending break points right in his first service game. Eventually taking the set into another tiebreaker, Roger committed a series of errors before Delbonis wrapped up his win.

Next up for Roger is a trip home as he will play the tournament in Gstaad in the Swiss mountains next week.

***Joke Dutch lady***
Thank you ever so much for wonderful ,honest knowledgeable report 07/20/2013 commencing 11.23pm.
IT SHOULD BE POSTED EVERYWHERE especially on the forum--I do not use the forum for many reasons but our daughter alerted us to some laughable comments from there-Some who say that as Roger is old now at almost 32 yrs it is easy for one to blame his back problems for recent losses. Really? Perhaps one should buy a wheelchair for the poor old chap!

BUT you cemented your greatness and gamesmanship more than ever to the world.
I cannot say how very very proud I am of you.
What have the so called experts said about you and the match? Nothing of interest.

If it had not been for your wonderful fan, Joke, Dutchlady little or nothing would have been reported. That only happens ,so it appears if one's knees ache.
I wish you all of the very best for Gstaad BUT most importantly hope that your back improves.

Hello dear Roger
I think that we are/ were all disappointed FOR you re the result Hamburg S/F
Having to play the QF late the evening before which appeared cold windy, wet sand confirmed in your wonderful interview and equally wonderful post from Joke --Dutchlady, We suspected that the cold had caused your back problems to flare up.BUT being the champion that you are NO mto,no complaints and NO retirement-you soldiered on & nearly won. You may not have won the match
