Roger loses to Brands

25.07.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger had to admit a 3-6, 4-6 defeat against Daniel Brands in Gstaad today.

Roger had a total of five break-balls during the entire match, unfortunately he wasn't able to make use of any of them. "It did get better from day to day this week. Only after the warm-up did I decide if I would play," Roger said to the problems he is currently experiencing with his back.

Monday in a week is the start in Montreal, followed by the tournaments in the US. "I will give myself three, four days time and will discuss with the team. We'll take it from there," Roger added in regard to his participation in Canada.

ILOVEROGER92 I like surprises - most of the time ..... I hope you weren't implying the "r" word, although yes, this situation is strange. Roger was going to give it three/four days after his defeat to make a decision and it's well past that .....

I don't think it is bad news if Roger doesn't play in Montreal. It will give him an extra week to make sure his back is in the best possible shape for Cinci where he has 1000 points to defend. I don't want to see him slipping further down the rankings. Eeeek. A distinct possibility if he doesn't get close to the final. Especially considering it is Berdych who is the next contender. Please don't let him be ranked above you.

It must be very touch and go if we have not heard anything so far. My own feeling is if his back is still causing even the slightest of niggles in the background, he should not go. He will play on or two good matches and then the back will be in pain again and he will lose or retire. Not good for a Roger's confidence, does not improve the problem and gives the media plenty of scope to say nasty things about him. They seem to
ignore the fact that he has problems. It does not fit their story!

What a lovely story, and what a wonderful man he is. Thank you Beatriz in sharing it with us. My very best wishes to you for the future. Having cancer so young is very unlucky and must have been so hard to accept. I hope it has now gone, and gone for good.
I often think out of bad often comes some good. In Beatriz's case Roger gave her, and
her family something they will never forget. I am sure this is one of many things he does. I'm very envious of all those hugs and kisses she got!!
