Cincinnati: the draw

11.08.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

The draw for the Masters-1000 tournament in Cincinnati is out, Roger's path to a sixth victory is no easy one.

After a first-round bye he will either play his first match against Mardy Fish (ATP 78) or Philipp Kohlschreiber (ATP 24). In the quarter-finals, a meeting with Rafael Nadal is possible before Andy Murray could then be waiting in the semis.

As defending champion, Roger is aiming at his sixth victory in Cincinnati after 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012.

At Hamburg (Roger was more injured in Gstaad, so lets not consider that match), i observed that there was an increase in the BH slice speed, FH and BH shots had more depth and pace even though Roger did NOT put as much effort as needed to get that kind of depth and pace with his old 90 inch racquet.
So with less effort Roger was able to improve his baseline game due to the new 98 inch racquet.
Are my eyes deceiving me here ? or did anyone else notice the improvement in Roger's baseline game ?

@TNC I agree with you.
Roger's mind is in total disarray regarding the racquet decision.
After practicing for 5 full days with the 'easy to use' 98 inch prototype, at the last of day of practice, he ditched it and reverted to his old 'tough to use' 90 inch racquet.
This is just NOT common sense. Why did he waste 5 days practicing with the prototype then ? Surely a day of practice should be enough to know if the new racquet is good or bad for now. This is just an irrational, insensible decisio

I think Roger's game was well below std.....rusty, not moving well. Forget Rafa / Murray / Djoker, with this game Roger will not b able 2 cross Hass.

He went back to his old racket it seems - i cd not make out clearly. His usual bk hand slices were sitting ducks sometimes for Kohl.

May b i am being too pessimistic, he has won after all....but i didnt c the Roger i wanted.......

Hey guys, I stayed up all night to watch Roger win !!! Great job.
Now I have to hurry up to get ready for work.
But Roger seems to be tired, even after 1,5 hours....
He did not run more after every ball, has to, if he wants to defeat guys like Rafa, Novak or Andy...
