Roger defeats Haas

15.08.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has booked a spot in the quarter-finals in Cincinnati with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Germany's Tommy Haas.

It was a tough fight for Roger in the beginning as he only managed to find his game trailing 1-6, 2-4, to the delight of the spectators. Next up is either Rafael Nadal or Grigor Dimitrov. And then it would be a further, tough path with Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic as possible opponents for the semis and then the final.

@SDANU, thanks for sharing your views! Actually its not necessarily here but at other forums I've noticed nasty comments about Rafa. Anyway, for a lay person like me its very difficult I'd say outrageous to comment on how Roger can improve things! It could be so many things- change of coach- more practice- changing tactics- or something else! But I strongly believe Tennis is so much a mental game ...

A real hero fights all the tops with one hand - you are the only one beat younger players with your one hard hand.

Yes sir, you will beat them down competely next time at whatever your age.

You could've won this match. You did not challenge the last point - you probably thought yourself that it was in, regardless, it was a close match. You were almost there, really. Please do not give up. In today's age, 32 yrs. is mighty young. I cannot imagine tennis without you. Lots of luck at the US Open, ok?

SDANU - i hv watching Roger's match & following him frm 2005 FO semifinal. I know his BH weakness but he still can turn the match esp on hardcts. Roger / Rafa knows each others game xtremely well, it boils dwn 2 each match strategy and mind game. Roger came in so well today, lost his cool when he got broke in 2nd. Pat Mac was shocked, Roger didnt wait 30s in the ct after the last pt !!!! In Cincy the BH does not bounce too high, still the ball comes in v heavy for the spin......Rog shd hv won...

he does not need to hit a backhand on the high bouncing balls, he needs to use the slice backhand more, why does it works for darcis or dimitrov. they had more and longer rallys with rafa than roger does.

rafa was not injured when he played darcis, he just couldnt find and answer to the darcis game

SABRI001, Roger does NOT and should NOT care about going out in style.. He loves this game too much.. This his life. He has NO idea what he would like to do when he retires. So wants to postpone his retirement as much as he can ... And we should all support and stand beside him in happy and also through his difficult times.. We owe it to him..

Sorry you lost, Rog. You played really great and it was a toss up, really, because you could have won. The important thing is your magic is back and that will take you to the USOpen. Looking forward to seeing you play here in NY.

TNC, Roger does NOT need a psychiatrist. He played this match with the right mindset. Too bad Rafa is so good at exploiting the only weakness of Roger -- his BH. BH return of serve did not win him any points in this match. BH on the high bouncing balls is difficult to hit for a single hander and way too difficult when done with a small 90sq inch frame.

fancyfree, i just dont want to see our champ humiliating himself, i just want him to end his career in style
