Roger defeated by Rafa

17.08.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger showed a strong match against Rafael Nadal in Cincinnati, but eventually had to admit a close 7-5, 4-6, 3-6 defeat.

"I'm happy with my progress along the way," Roger said. "Could have won tonight; should have won tonight. Who knows? But at the end, I think Rafa's confidence and the way he's playing at the moment got him through."

Our champ was in good shape, he varied his serve excellently and moved very well. After winning the first set, at 4-4 in the second, he was just 6 points away from winning the match. He made the 27-year-old Spaniard work for it from beginning to end, when he saved four match points before falling.

As defending champion Roger will drop over 800 points - making him fall back to number 7 behind Tomas Berdych and Juan Martin del Potro in the rankings.

Ofcourse WTF against Novak, Roger was to die for, he was so good. Lost on one or two points. I thought he played Rafa very well at IW 2012 where he won in straights.
Cincy this year, to be honest, I love Roger, but I thought Rafa would win in 6-2 6-2. Especially the way Roger began against Haas. But I was just blown away by Roger. The match was in Holland at midnight and I was applauding him and screaming for him. He could have won. Unfortunately the second set, Rafa broke back

Hey bhai !!! Thank you for the compliment about me beeing a fan. I am Roger's DIEHARD FAN. Just love the guy like crazy.
I live in Holland, but I was born in Suriname. My great grandparents (parents of my Nana en Nanie) are from India.

And..... I only know the Hindi they talk in the movies or in the seriels. Yes, I watch a lot of serials on Zee TV (next to Roger of course !!!).
So Bengali, I don't understand, maybe some words that are familiar to words in movies/serials !!!

@ RODFEDERER
I hope same. Also wish our IDOL will attain WTF level in USO & won't make the same mistake of letting go the control of the match when he stay so near to win.

So do I RODFEDERER! I am feeling good about the USopen. I have not stopped smiling since Rogers match against Nadal last week. He may have lost (dirty word when spoken about Roger!) but he could have won and I felt our Roger was well on his way back to us! He produced an awful lot of magic which had been missing from his game for a long while. The shots coming from Rogi and Rafa were incredible. They certainly bring out the best out of each other! I am hoping court at USO will suit Rogi well

@somnath:

I think the 2012 final at Year-end was terrific. Excellent shot-making from both guys. too bad there was only 1 winner. In the cincinnati match, Roger started out great, but Rafa righted the ship in the right time. Federer's shot-making for a set and half was absolutely out of this world and he was making a mockery of his younger opponent. Roger has gotta be feeling terrrific after this match! I hope he will build on it and give us a great result at USOpen!

John Mac. Is welcome to his opinions . He may or may not be right, we will see. I am not so sure, Roger is more stubborn and determined than he is ever given credit for. We have heard it all before. 2011 the same things were said by so many people about Roger and look what happened, he did not stop at winning a GS and the Olympic silver medal, he won a few more "bits and pieces" as well and went back to his rightful place as No.1 !! When will these people learn ?!!

@KEMNA
And another query to you. Please let me know your opinion.
Which one is better match last played by our IDOL
WTF-2012 against Djoker or Cincinnati match against RAFA.
