Roger with a good start

28.08.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger won his first round at the US Open against Grega Zemlja (ATP 62) 6-3, 6-2 and 7-5.

Roger was in very good shape, winning the match in 1 hour 33 minutes. The stats for his first round are certainly impressive: 85% of points won on his first serve, 12 aces, backed up by 35 clean winners, the last of them a forehand volley to wrap it up.

The two players split the first six games to begin the match, before Roger won three in a row to take the first set, 6-3. He continued that success in the second set, winning 6-2 before taking the match with a 7-5 victory in the third set.

Roger will now play Argentina's Carlos Berlocq (ATP 48).

Except Roger in the QF, I don't see a player that can be a challenge to Nadal in that half... Ferrer's quarter is a joke on paper.. It's a virtual walkover to the finals (no disrespect).. But on a good day, any player can become hot for that day and can cause an upset, especially if the opponent is having a bad day... So we'll see how it goes... But for many years now, I'm not happy with the way USO is handing cakewalks to that lefty.. May law of nature does justice at this USO..

The tennis analysts said many things about Roger in the past... Only Roger knows his capability and what he can do... As for Nadal being a sure-shot winner of the tournament, I'm not sure about that... Yeah, he has an easy path to finals..

Zemlja played a very bad match which helped you to capitalize. In recent past I notice that you are not taking risk although you are known as one of the great risk-takers. Some of your trade-mark shots that have become rare: 1. Backhand down the line 2. passing shots when opponent is at net 3. forehand cross-court on the run
although some of these were present in cincy against nadal... may be when opponent is not playing well, u too can't get into that rhythm..

I love seeing the joy Roger has for playing tennis. It makes me as a tennis fan enjoy it that much more. Check out this photo released on the USO site.

Congratulations on a stunning win. Absolutely brilliant seeing you in full-flow. Such an amazing repertoire of shots. Well done. Noticed that your rhythm is a bit quicker. Be careful not to injure yourself in forcing one's movement awkwardly. Strange to say the word, since you are so graceful on the court.

Good luck in your match against Berlocq.

Always with you.

Here we go again late at night early in the morning. Good luck against Berlocq.

Thanks for posting the touchy interview by A.Rod. Glad to see he looks happy, I always thought that Andy is mad of Roger ruined his whole career.

well said. I completely agree with you except that we all want him to win USO too.
