Roger wins first match

09.10.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has booked a spot in the round of the last 16 in Shanghai after a 6-4, 6-3-victory over Andreas Seppi.

Roger only encountered a few problems in the opening phase of the match when he was  broken by Seppi to fall back 2-3. But Roger immediately responded, secured a re-break and went on to win the first set without any further difficulties. He opened the second set in style, breaking his opponent to jump to a 2-0 lead and then take home the match after 74 minutes of play.

Next up is Gaël Monfils (ATP 42) in the round of the last 16. Roger leads the head-to-head 6-1.

Roger is doing good at doubles. He has no intention of breaking the heart of his Chinese fans.... yet....

It was not a bad loss at all. Just because Monfils played too good.

If he loves the game that much he will do what ever it takes to bring himself back to form, whether be tactics or a different racquet. At the moment he has nothing to lose by trying different things. Everyone now knows his weaknesses and going for them, they have been studying the problem of Roger for many years. He now needs to try something different, all be it in his usual stylish and graceful way!

That alternative might be to find a permanent doubles partner and concentrate on doubles on tour. He could still fill a house with expo matches and eventually the seniors tour. He could get good enjoyment out of those and we would still see him. Far better than the unmentionable alternative which begins with an R! First of all though, I really hope he can rise to the challenge of getting himself back to what he is capable of, because he is still more than capable if only he can believe that!

I know Roger is playing because he loves playing, but he has also said, one half of him loves to win and the other half hates to lose. He did not look a happy bunny on that court or when he walked off. I do think that he will be forced to think deep how much he enjoys tennis the way he is playing. Either he loves it so much that he will be forced to try other things and enjoy the challenge or find an alternative

Totally agree with you. Roger has the records, he has this unique style and he also has this ability to transmit his love for the game !!
I just wish him health and joy.

Roger, you must change your racquet there is no alternative...
I believe switch of 98 head racquet will bring your accuracy and old form back in 2014.
Take care
