Federer and Annacone End |Coaching Relationship

12.10.2013 | Off Court, Starseite 3

After a terrific 3 ½ years working together, Paul and I have decided to move on to the next chapter in our professional lives. When we started together we had a vision of a 3 year plan to win another Grand Slam title and get back to the number #1 ranking. Along with many other goals and great memories, these 2 main goals were achieved. After numerous conversations culminating at the end of our most recent training block, we felt like this was the best time and path for both of us. Paul remains a dear friend, and we both look forward to continuing our friendship. I want to thank Paul for his help and the value he has added to me and my team.

Aethelwynefed - I went to the ATP website and the fans favourite page wouldn't load. Do you know if voting has opened already?

When it comes to a choice of coach, I agree the person needs to be someone strong and will not take any rubbish that Roger may dish his/her way.

For example, Ivan Lendl for Andy Murray has been ideal. Ivan doesn't need the money. If Andy doesn't like the message, then Ivan walks. You need a character who has been there done that, and has coaching experience. I still think Jim Courier is a good fit.

He has done all this and he really doesn't care if the message is well received or not.

KEMNA,i think he needs a coach with strong personality who can put up with him and one,who sometimes won't take no for an answer.Otherwise hiring a coach is useless and he can manage it himsef. So, i agree with everything you say about the subject.

Federer needs this music pre-match to inspire him like it did Bruce Wayne when hope of escape hung by a thread:

... Roger needs such a coach. Someone who says, "look Rogi, you are 32, others are catching up and becoming stronger, you have more difficulties with regular journeyman, it is tough and it gets tougher, but I do believe you have some big titles and GS in you and I want to help you win them".

But I don't know much about coaches, so who can be this coach, I don't know.

Maybe Roger needs 2 months without a coach, so he can think about it and play some more freely...

What do you guys think??

... he should not let Roger call all the shots. He should say to Roger, "look Rogi, you are the Goat, I cannot teach you anything big anymore that you don't already know, but I can give you some pointers and if you want to win more again (big titles) than you have to do it my way, no discussions, no stubbornness, just plain good old listening from you. If I say you do that, then you do it. You can have ideas of your own, we will discuss and then I will say what to do". Roger needs such a...

Hey Hulietta and IloveRoger92, ah, I was just joking. Paul is a mature and honest guy. He would not 'sell' Roger out. And yes, Roger is very very stubborn. But I can understand that too. He is the one on the court and he feels his body the best.
As for the new coach?? No Mac Enroe or Connors. I hate to say it, but he needs a half Uncle Toni/half Lendl kind of coach. Someone who respects Roger, knows that he is not 23 anymore, but is still strict with him. He should not let Roger...

2. Not that he moving to hit with forehend is the problem; the fact is that it can not put any kind of pressure on his opponent. The bols are very short and the ball no longer has that high speed, like in the old days. Yesterday when he join to hit with forehendul he made the low. And now?
3. No longer able keep long really. Especially after he played the day before. The human body at 32 years of age no replenish as 25 years done..

1. If he send in the movement, younger players who run a lot better than he can, they put him to run. And that he wants to escape. Have you seen that he no longer runs after almost any stop?. When he lost to Nadal at Roland Raros he opened too much angle and Nadal with the , with the nose in the ground, passing him the phenomenal: when on the right side when on the left.. Then he said he has found the solution to beat Nadal. No more playing in angles but hard in midfield. It was better but s
