Swiss Indoors, Basel

20.10.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

The tennis event in Roger's home-town Basel is about to start, with our champ taking the third seeding. Roger's first opponent is Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (ATP 60), who he clearly beat at this year’s US Open. In the following round he will either meet 47-ranked Denis Istomin or 48-ranked Horacio Zeballos. Roger's designated semi-final opponent is Tomas Berdych (ATP 6).

“I’m just going to focus on trying to play well,” Roger said. “I’m not too focused on the points system. So I just got to move along. I can still finish strong. I believe I can and there’s not much time left. I’m looking forward to Basel now. That’s the next step for me, and hopefully that’s going to go well for me.”

THESE ARE ROGER'S WORDS AND I AGREE - THE MOST IMPORTANT THING NOW IS TO PLAY WELL - WHEN HE DOES, EVERYTHING WILL COME TOGETHER - SO HIS MINDSET IS CLEVER AND CORRECT :

OK ROGER YOU'RE ON - AND I BELIEVE IN YOU - GO FOR IT!!

IF ONLY ONE PERSON IN THE WORLD CAN DO IT , IT'S ROGER.

2012 should have been his year. Maybe it was the exhausting semifinals marathon with Delpo. Plus Murray was highly motivated to prove himself.

Who knows, with a still fit and virtuosic Federer, and a burned out Nadal-Murray-Djokovic, 2016 may be our year! :D

It would be so cool to see Roger with an Olympic singles gold medal around his neck.

Well, the missing single's Gold medal in olympics is something Roger dearly wants. If he's playing okay in '14 and '15, I do believe he'll push towards the Rio olympics.
From the very beginning of his career, he's been very supportive of Swiss tennis and Davis Cup and Olympics events, Rio is definitely on his radar. That, and some unexpected disappointments in his career: 2009 US Open, a Roland Garros with Nadal in the final etc.
I think he can strike a balance between his career and family.

The children go to school next autumn or the year after in 2015 so they surely won't travel. Do you think that will cause Roger immense pain and therefore he might just decide to retire a year earlier for that reason Shatir?

Yep, besides, it was also Roger's dream to have his kids watch him play at the top, so that part is an ongoing reality.

Well that's better ….. They have changed the photo of Rafa to one of Roger on the Basel Homepage.

All the best Roger. Stay healthy, play strong n focused.
