Roger moves on in Basel

21.10.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger made a great start into the Swiss Indoors in Basel with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Adrian Mannarino.

Roger opened the match with a break - but the Frenchman was able to do the same just a bit later. Another break in game number 7 then gave our champ the necessary advantage to secure the first set. Roger further raised his level in the second set, happily wrapping up the victory after 66 minutes of play in front of his home crowd.

Roger will either play Horacio Zeballos (ATP 51) or Denis Istomin (ATP 48) in the next round.

Hey Champ, good job in the first round.. Istomin is a big hitter and can be troublesome.. But you're the master of aggression.. So get it done in straights..

Great first match, Roger, against that nice Adrian Mannarino!! I see he's said that no-one minds losing to you..... that must be one of the most impressive accolades the players can give you. Onward to tomorrow and good luck! Much love as always to you and your dear family, Roger.

That was a great story.

Looks like Roger is watching FC Basel on television! He just tweeted about it.

Was that our CJM who wrote and had her photo taken with Roger?

BTW *Picka*, thanks for the nod on the New Statesman article: really excellent I thought, especially on Rog's unbelievably imaginative play; no one else will ever match him: therein lies his genius.

Go champ, we want to see some fireworks at the end of the season! xxxxxxxx

It's sad Stan lost, but it won't really affect the ATP Race To London, since Stan wouldn't have earned any points in the race unless he reached the Semis.
The same applies to Gasquet, while Tsonga and Raonic aren't playing this week.

Meanwhile, Istomin seems to have a woeful record overall, and especially so against Roger. He's 0-4 in the H2H, never winning a set or reaching a tie-break. What are we worried about?
