Roger moves on in Basel

21.10.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger made a great start into the Swiss Indoors in Basel with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Adrian Mannarino.

Roger opened the match with a break - but the Frenchman was able to do the same just a bit later. Another break in game number 7 then gave our champ the necessary advantage to secure the first set. Roger further raised his level in the second set, happily wrapping up the victory after 66 minutes of play in front of his home crowd.

Roger will either play Horacio Zeballos (ATP 51) or Denis Istomin (ATP 48) in the next round.

The mindset is the most important part of playing tennis. You can have the best strokes, serves, footwork, etc. in the world. If you aren't motivated or don't believe in yourself, you lose.

Hey guys, no offence... but the first and most important thing Roger needs to work on is.... his love for the game and enjoying it...

It is not enough to say in all the press conf that you still love the game, you have to show it.

Anyone who is watching right now (believe me, I am his biggest fan) he is acting like he does not want to be there.

There is NOTHING wrong with his game, his footwork, his speed, etc.
He needs to get hungry for winning, for enjoying the sport.

@Fancyfree He has no self-confidence. But in order to gain it, he has to win matches, which he doesn't really. So vicious cycle there...

Jesus, Istomin had more luck in this one game than other players have during the whole tournament. That's so frustrating.
