Quarters in Shanghai

09.10.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has booked his spot in the quarters in Shanghai thanks to a clear 6-4, 6-2 win over Roberto Bautista Agut today.

Roger, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych are the only seeded players left among the last eight. In today's match against Roberto Bautista Agut showed solid tennis and he certainly looked a lot more at ease, only having to fight off one single break-ball.

Roger's next opponent is Julien Benneteau (ATP 30) - our champ has a 5:2 lead in the head-to-head.

CJM, it's interesting to see how the match will be like. It might be epic but it might also turn out to be a major letdown. I remember how Roger was playing great in Shanghai in 2010 (demolishing Isner and Soderling and then beating Novak in Sf -all straights!) and then in the finals against Murray he was just terrible. I'm not setting my hopes high, just want to enjoy some great tennis. Haven't had this kind of attitude for a lng time ...

I might even join you on that BALSTED. It is about time we have had a bit of class winning and Roger is top of the class, so to speak. He was back to his "ridiculous "self today I was so happy to see! Those matches are to be treasured.

The RF-isms are great fun, thank you for the idea! My recent ones are generated by Rogers play on court, he is helping.
I am pleased to hear the interview was from a few days ago. He did say he had not be that well but improving. I hope he is feeling great tomorrow. I am really hoping it is his turn tomorrow, he deserves it! Must get a suitable RF for a win!

We will have to wait and see - somewhat difficult! Likely the match will be epic. Those top guys, both top-motivated - both with a great history with and not with each other. I'm already having stomach-reactions (but no appendicitis) - I want SO MUCH classy Roger to win! I might even pray for it...

Novak's is definitely a slight favortie as he's just on the game (it'll be his 9th match) and Roger's 4th but let's hope Roger's feeling the ball really good and once more beats Novak on this court ! One thing for sure, the physical factor is out of the equation, at least until the match crosses the 2nd hour of play.
