Roger in semis

25.10.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger qualified for the semi-finals at the Swiss Indoors for the eleventh time in his career after a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory over Grigor Dimitrov.

Roger showed great tennis during several periods, even though he had to battle every now and then. He had to fight off five break-balls in his first service game but found his rhythm from there on, showing a great rest of the opening set. Dimitrov broke him early in the second set, Roger falling behind 3-5. He managed to save three set-points and take the set into a tie-breaker - which he clearly decided in his favour.

With his 50th victory in Basel he has now won 50 or more matches at 5 different tournaments (the others being Grand Slams). He is now just two victories away from qualifying for the Masters in London.

Roger will now play Canada's Vasek Pospisil (ATP 40) in his home town on Saturday.

P.s. Dear Roger, you know how some players like to come out all attacking, and in an agressive manner, very quick paced. The next player, I think, might be like that: anxious to prove himself.
Keep that in mind, and keep him in line. Good luck, and trust your game, instincts, reflexes and hunches! I believe you know how to "play" him.

YEEESSS! Wonderful play, as I thought it would be! Keep on with this assured and certain manner. Thanks for the experience!

Now it is very clear that our IDOL need mental & psychological assistance rather than any coaching about technicality. At least in yesterday's match his nice ground strokes, cross court, service, tricky shots, winning in long rallies showed he still owns everything except confidence & that strong desire because at times he looked so messy, dejected, blank just after winning few good points. Like he went through kind of switch on-off condition. He certainly needs to think about this.

Dearest Rog - a bit of a topsy turvy match but you showed great mental toughness - the break points saved made good reading - but better for my heart when you have fewer! I thought you both seemed nervous to start (not surprising after all the hype!). Dimi's nerves continued and you held yours. Good luck in the next one gorgeous man, xxxxxx
(BTW I actually quite like this shirt: I reckons it's helping to 'dazzle' your opponents!
