Roger defeated in final

27.10.2013 | Tennis

Roger showed great tennis in today's final at the Swiss Indoors but was defeated by Juan Martin Del Potro 6-7(3), 6-2, 4-6.

Roger fought hard and both players displayed a terrific match. Our champ admitted a break in game number eight but came right back with a re-break to love. Unfortunately Del Potro proved the better player in the tie-breaker, taking the opening set. Roger jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second set and scored another break at the end of the set, wrapping it up neatly. The start into the decider was very unlucky for Roger. He was serving for the game at 40-15 but committed a total of three double-faults to lose the advantage and the game. Not able to score a break himself, Roger had to admit defeat after 2 hours 20 minutes.

Roger will play the tournament in Paris next week. He needs to win one single match there in order to qualify for the World Tour Finals.

continued....
Playing 10 finals and winning 5 of them is a record and you can be very proud of that. You were very close and the difference was probably that little bit of extra confidence that Delpo had because of his good season.
Paris is underway and you have won your first match that also secured your place at the WTF. This final, even though you didn't win the title, gave me the confidence that you would do so.
Good luck in Paris!

Hello Roger,
Like another fan wrote her before me; welcome back! I couldn't watch the match live, which saved me from being nervous and sad you lost, but from what I saw on the recording looked more than promising again. You played a very good match with excellent tennis and I have no doubt that we will have a fine end of the season again. That standing ovation was really moving and expressed what all the fans over the world wanted to say to you.

A pat on the back and a big hug...You are playing exceptional. Your all-round game is stunning. The unforced errors at key moments need to be eliminated, but overall you are playing brilliantly and consistently every day.

Cannot help but notice in the last two tournaments that you are getting 'animated'.
What has happen to the 'Buddha-like' Federer of 17 Grand Slam titles ?
Not to be insulting, but are you imitating Andy Murray and his bad behaviour on court?

The best of luck in Paris.

Roger,

That's OK. You cannot get everything.

I like Del Potro. He said, when he won US Open against you or when you beat him in Paris, the following: he has two goals: the one is to win US Open, the second is to be like Roger!
Hope you will continue to play as long as you like. But after you retire I will root for Del Po, though I will be crying not to see you play.

Love forever,
takeko
