Roger defeated in final

27.10.2013 | Tennis

Roger showed great tennis in today's final at the Swiss Indoors but was defeated by Juan Martin Del Potro 6-7(3), 6-2, 4-6.

Roger fought hard and both players displayed a terrific match. Our champ admitted a break in game number eight but came right back with a re-break to love. Unfortunately Del Potro proved the better player in the tie-breaker, taking the opening set. Roger jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second set and scored another break at the end of the set, wrapping it up neatly. The start into the decider was very unlucky for Roger. He was serving for the game at 40-15 but committed a total of three double-faults to lose the advantage and the game. Not able to score a break himself, Roger had to admit defeat after 2 hours 20 minutes.

Roger will play the tournament in Paris next week. He needs to win one single match there in order to qualify for the World Tour Finals.

but a wonderful human being loved by millions world wide.
Your dad once said that he likes to be seated early before your matches as he enjoys the receptions that you receive on entering the court---how did he feel last evening--full of pride. Did I see a little tear in Mirka's eye? I wonder what the twins thought--they would no doubt would have enjoyed clappping their little hands off!!
Hopefully those who did not beleive in you will do so now.
Kindest regards

It is improving with each match. However, you are playing beautiful tennis even though you have had such a limited practice time this year.
The support from the Basel fans must have been so very heartening for you AND that amazing standing ovation from them, we did not want it to stop as words cannot express the feeling of hearing it which will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Roger no one deserves such acclamation more than yourself--you are not only the most gifted tennis player

Hello Roger
Well well where does one start ? A fabulous week of tennis finishing with a wonderful performance from the most superb gifted athlete working his way back to the top of the sport that he loves so much. The toe to toe final was exciting--interesting 96 points EACH [won]serving % for each -- 1 point within each other, little difference in no of break points.
Your 1st serve remains a little problamatic at times--perhaps you are fearing that pain may return--who knows .

You certainly have a point. But our IDOL once tried the same so it's not that he is not considering the option or will not do in future lets say starting of 2014. For the time being he can do really well in remaining 3 setter tournaments if he plays like yesterday or take the level up a bit. Anyone could have won yesterday. He was coprehensively matching 'full form-young-strong' Delpo, even surpassed him on many occassions with his small racquet itself. Don't you agree?

Dear IDOL,
Congratulation for being back in form certainly. Tough luck in yesterday's match. You both won 96 points apiece. You won aggregate 1 more game than Del(16-15) means overall you played better than him except those 4 double faults which basically manufactured by yourself only. So yesterday's defeat is a mixture of bad luck + your lapse on few points. With you back in form & adding some refinements I am really hopeful you can win WTF as you are the master of Indoors. All the best.
