Roger defeated after fight

05.11.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

After a tough battle at the ATP World Tour Finals today, Roger was defeated 4-6, 7-6(2), 2-6 by Novak Djokovic in his first match in Group B.

Roger was not able to convert two break points towards the end of the first set and later dropped his serve as Djokovic grew in confidence. The second set was a true battle, Roger came from 40-0 down to break his opponent and gain a 3-2 lead. But with three more breaks in the following games the players eventually fought their way into a tie-breaker - which Roger clearly won. The decider was then in the hands of Djokovic who wrapped up the match after 2 hours 22 minutes.

Congrats Roger. Please clean up your game. Too many unforced errors. Rest up well. See you on Saturday. Good Job getting it done in straights. Winner, Winner,

Remember that the runner up of Roger's group plays Rafa as winner of the other group.

@FEDFHURER,

Yes, such misses have hurt Roger in the past.
Still can't believe he missed 2 match points on his serve against Djokovic in the semis of the US Open of BOTH 2010 and 2011. Those were grand slam titles he would have added to his 17.

You mean Rafa I assume. All speculation and needless speculation at that.

Congratulations! You did what you had to and that is the most important!
Wish you a good rest and even better prepare for the next match! Your next opponent is really a tough one! But I'm happy you won today and your chances are here!
Wish you all the best dearest Roger!

This group will open up dangerously if Del Potro beats Djokovic.
It will most likely be decided based on sets won. That might require Roger to beat Del Po in straight sets to qualify.
On the other hand, if Djokovic wins, it'll be a straight shootout between Roger and Del Po for the semis.

thanks Shatir...

one thing that for SURE STILL BOTHERS US..

IT TOOK HIM 6 (SIX) MATCH BALLS TO END THE MATCH.... WHAT THE HECK?? you won't get as many against other guys like delpo, djoko and of course, Dopal...

@FEDFHURER,

It wasn't a very sharp performance. 29 winners to 30 unforced errors.
Considering that it's much easier to hit winners against Gasquet, that could have been better.
But on the bright side, Gasquet was never in the match and Roger led from start to finish. He got looks on almost every service game by Gasquet.
