Roger defeated after fight

05.11.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

After a tough battle at the ATP World Tour Finals today, Roger was defeated 4-6, 7-6(2), 2-6 by Novak Djokovic in his first match in Group B.

Roger was not able to convert two break points towards the end of the first set and later dropped his serve as Djokovic grew in confidence. The second set was a true battle, Roger came from 40-0 down to break his opponent and gain a 3-2 lead. But with three more breaks in the following games the players eventually fought their way into a tie-breaker - which Roger clearly won. The decider was then in the hands of Djokovic who wrapped up the match after 2 hours 22 minutes.

Oh dearie me. Ferrer has now lost two matches in two straight sets so out of the tournament. Berdych equal 2nd with Wawrinka and the outcome of that match will play Djokovic in the semi final. It looks as if Roger will play Rafa!.

I think the final group matches are on Saturday and the semi finals Sunday.

Hardcourts nowadays are probably constructed over a clay foundation.

I think the general opinion is the they have slowed down the O2 surface. Even Nadal said so. Given that, it is hardly surprising Roger's game did not translate as well as it normally does.

The important thing for Roger is to take care of Gasquet in straight sets and be well rested for Friday. Should he make it to the semis, he will most probably play Nadal.

Berdych vs Ferrer... the cockiest vs the most humble player on the tour.

Poor Roger, then he did do a brilliant job last night! Thanks for letting me know FANCYFREE. He must be out of energy.
I hope it goes as quickly as mine did, which I brought back from Basel! Like your comment about the scarf. Shame you were not able to wrap it a little tighter for him! In a very caring way of course!
