Roger through to semis!

09.11.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger booked a spot in the semis of the ATP World Tour Finals after a 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-5 win over Juan Martin del Potro today.

Roger had difficulties returning del Potro's serves in the beginning and simply committed too many errors in the opening set - letting the Argentinian take a 5-1 lead and eventually the set. In the second set, Roger fell a break behind again but this time, he managed to level at 3-3. Roger later played an excellent tie-breaker to level in sets. But our champ lost the momentum in the decider as he let his opponent open up a 3-0 advantage. But once again, Roger came back full blast, finding his way into the match not only levelling but scoring another late break to go up 6-5 and then closing out the match with his 10th ace.

Roger will meet Rafael Nadal in the semis tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Good points CJM and Kemna. Roger has the right to play till decides not to.

Most of the tennis world is happy to see him play.

Allez Federer!

I got my prediction right, but I kept hoping and wishing Federer to take his chances and go against the odds. It was not to be, but Federer gave his very beast. He will have to keep up the good work and he will reap the benefits.

Now to the other Swiss. His task is equally tough and here is my prview:

Well said KEMNA
Roger is getting older so he cannot play men in their prime, especially baseline bashers, every day and expect to win all the time. He may come back to us with some wins next year, but he is still Roger the great, still very able to worry the top 8. Also he is still a marvel to watch to do battle and admire, let alone the charm of him in interviews! He is still fighting this new challenge of age and bad backs, let us support him in that, he needs us now more than ever! Roger xxx!

I so agree with you Kemna!
Roger's game is beyond dominance or the lack of it, or numbers or stats. He's still a very great and very capable player, and will be for as long as he chooses to play.

Roger's post match interview. He looks pretty relaxed and content, and the interview is slightly longer than usual too:

BOTING, Roger knows, the tennisworld knows, his fans know, even I know his dominance is over. Was even in 2011. But what do you want him to do? Stop playing because he is not dominant anymore?? Just quit?? Without fighting??
If he would listen to the critics he would never have had 2012.

Boting, he is not dominant anymore, but he STILL is relevant and still very capable of winning titles and GS. You just watch. But... have faith in the guy...

People dont kick Federer down people are seeing that Federer's dominance in
tennis is over. It is what it is and Federer knows that.

I didn't see it live because I was away. Then I watched it and it was really hard battle!!! Excellent tie-breaker and amazing the third set!!! It was great fun to see how You play!!! GOO ROGER!!! GOO!!!

BOTING, my expectations are realistic. After a "bad" 2013 I did not expect him to win WTF. I had hoped for it, but not expected. Since he entered Basel, I have taken it one match at the time. Yes, I was extremely proud that he fought Delpo and I thought he would defeat Rafa. But he didn't. Still, there is nothing that will make me turn on Roger. I DON'T BELIEVE IN KICKING A MAN WHEN HE IS DOWN !!!

Roger is down too, hurting, he needs our support, our good wishes, our strenght, OUR BELIEVE
