Roger through to semis!

09.11.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger booked a spot in the semis of the ATP World Tour Finals after a 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-5 win over Juan Martin del Potro today.

Roger had difficulties returning del Potro's serves in the beginning and simply committed too many errors in the opening set - letting the Argentinian take a 5-1 lead and eventually the set. In the second set, Roger fell a break behind again but this time, he managed to level at 3-3. Roger later played an excellent tie-breaker to level in sets. But our champ lost the momentum in the decider as he let his opponent open up a 3-0 advantage. But once again, Roger came back full blast, finding his way into the match not only levelling but scoring another late break to go up 6-5 and then closing out the match with his 10th ace.

Roger will meet Rafael Nadal in the semis tomorrow at 2 p.m.

My heart rate is usually about 10-20 beats per minute faster when Roger is about to play.

You're right, and it was also a positive, restrained kind of anger. Not a blind, break-the-racket kind of fury. His body language suggested that it was okay to be down the break in both sets 2 and 3 - didn't look like he would lose at all!

THEREALMRSRF, I was actually glad he became angry. He should do it more !!!
It upped his level, it got him more focused and he should not bottle it all up inside. ENOUGH with this mister too perfect too gentleman. He should not go overboard with it, but why can't he be angry? All the others are angry with themselves and start to play better. Roger should do that too.

Let it all out and up his game.

Anyone also nervous?? Like some of you I also have a good feeling.
I saw it in Roger's eyes and voice when he spoke on court after the win...
he believes he can win and he will.

If Berdych can almost bagel Rafa, if Stan can outnumber him in the stats, think what Roger can do to him. It will not be easy, will go to 3 sets, but I think Roger will win.

And you heard it here first, don't be so sure about Novak. Stan is playing some great tennis, I think he might cause an upset.

Brilliant match yesterday, edge of seat stuff. Roger has beaten Rafa on the last 2 occasions at the O2 and there is no reason why he cannot do it again today. I'll be watching. Sending my best wishes to Roger. You can do it champ. You are the best.

Roger did speak about his anger in his press conference. It was supposedly mostly about how he could repeat his old mistakes despite trying so hard to avoid them. I was actually happy to see the anger!
