Roger through to semis!

09.11.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger booked a spot in the semis of the ATP World Tour Finals after a 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-5 win over Juan Martin del Potro today.

Roger had difficulties returning del Potro's serves in the beginning and simply committed too many errors in the opening set - letting the Argentinian take a 5-1 lead and eventually the set. In the second set, Roger fell a break behind again but this time, he managed to level at 3-3. Roger later played an excellent tie-breaker to level in sets. But our champ lost the momentum in the decider as he let his opponent open up a 3-0 advantage. But once again, Roger came back full blast, finding his way into the match not only levelling but scoring another late break to go up 6-5 and then closing out the match with his 10th ace.

Roger will meet Rafael Nadal in the semis tomorrow at 2 p.m.

I'm feeling very nervous for today's match. I'm not ready for another wild rollercoaster ride. Lets hope for the better.

I'm not sure, but I believe Roger was practising on Center Court just a while ago, before the doubles match was due to start.

I'm so glad Roger got it together and won yesterday. I was bit worried when we was venting his anger in his Swiss German...looked so annoyed.

Any idea what he was saying???

Arre the practise courts exactly the same composition as the competition court?

Yes I saw him. I think he was good as Rafa and yesterday he mimicked Andy Murray perfectly!

He's on right now! I'm most impressed with his impression of John McEnroe. Perfect American accent and McEnroe's intonation! I wish he'd go "you CANNOT be serious!"

Roger isn't going to be tired today or tomorrow. Winning is what it's all about now.
As he says, he longer feels a pressure to win, and is just going into these games with a curiosity and a deep desire to win, before consolidating for 2014 in December.

I'm very optimistic about seeing a relaxed Roger ready to express his art!

Roger's sparring partner was Sam Butler who is an up and coming 18 year old British guy. He's a leftie ..... The impressionist is on shortly!

thanks for the very valuable information which allowed me to watch a bit of that training session!

That British player Roger was playing with looked a bit like Josh Berry (the tennis player impressionist who also plays Tennis himself - gotta see his impressions of Nadal, Gasquet, Del Po, Djokovic etc!), but I suppose it wasn't him.
