Roger through to semis!

09.11.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger booked a spot in the semis of the ATP World Tour Finals after a 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-5 win over Juan Martin del Potro today.

Roger had difficulties returning del Potro's serves in the beginning and simply committed too many errors in the opening set - letting the Argentinian take a 5-1 lead and eventually the set. In the second set, Roger fell a break behind again but this time, he managed to level at 3-3. Roger later played an excellent tie-breaker to level in sets. But our champ lost the momentum in the decider as he let his opponent open up a 3-0 advantage. But once again, Roger came back full blast, finding his way into the match not only levelling but scoring another late break to go up 6-5 and then closing out the match with his 10th ace.

Roger will meet Rafael Nadal in the semis tomorrow at 2 p.m.

ask you polite not telling lies yesterday I praised Federer for his peformance
against Delpotro especialy his fiting spirit which he showed in no way
against his Nemesis called Rafa Nadal. You are entitled to go on with your
admiration which is not always realistic.

When you play the wall, unavoidable to take risk and it wont go your way. No excuse, but I excuse the court. Even Brad Gilbert said this year O2 court is pretty much slower. I doubt that Novak or Stan can beat him. Before the tournament, Nadal said he want outdoor court, but after he beats Stan he said the court is perfect.

There is no shame in losing like this. Yes, he could have convert more breakpoints. Yes, he should not have been broken for the second time in the first set, but he tried. He gave nothing for free. I am still proud of him. This last couple of weeks he has been improving big and big time. Now he has 1,5 month to practise.
He will rock in 2014.

And.... although Rafa is in the final, he will not win WTF. He won't.
Stan or Novak will stop him there.

Dear Roger, I am really disappointed not in your loss..BUT how you lost...1st set after coming back from being broken and broke back, then you gave the game away. 2nd set...you just gave up without fighting. Nadal was awful today and you handed him the match in 2 sets..Come on Roger...tired or not tired at least show some fighting spirit. On a light note...we hope Stan can can go all the way and revenge..

Roger has 300+ weeks on number 1. Rafa is still only 110 or so. It's hard to imagine him keeping this up for 200 more weeks. He's barely 1/3rd there! Rafa never dominated the sport like Roger did on all surfaces, except 1 man on 1 surface.
5 more grand slams for Rafa - anything but easy.

Beyond the sheer numbers, it's annoying to see the slower courts playing into the hands of Rafa. Just last week he was struggling in Paris and got crushed by Ferrer on a faster court.

very disappointed with lack of fighting spirit in Rogers today performance...I knew it was going to be very difficult to fight against rafa after stunning performance against delpo, but this was less than I expected...always with you Roger! My family and I wish you nice holidays and hard work...see you soon. C'moon Roger! C'moon maestro!

Said by me before Federer is a great contender but not a great champion anymore,
He plays for his own pleasure and not for prices.

we all know he can, but he needs to work much much harder than he is doing know. we will see in 2014.

Oke, now I have to say something to you. This is not good what you are doing.
When Roger is winning, you are nowhere to be found, now that he lost, you comment and a very nasty comment too. Why do you do this?

I know you are Roger's fan and you want him to win, but you don't always have to attack him. Can't you just show your support? He already is so down, don't make it worse, atleast today...

Although roger lost, we should be happy he made his way out of a tough group.
