Roger defeated by Nadal

10.11.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger's quest for the title at the 2013 ATP World Tour Finals was stopped with a 5-7, 3-6 defeat by Rafael Nadal in the semis today.

The start of the match was very tight and chances looked good for Roger as he had break points on three occasions but unfortunately never managed to go all the way. It was Nadal who then did manage to break Roger's serve to take a 5-4 lead. But as Nadal was serving for the set, Roger battled back and scored a break himself - only for the Spaniard to do so as well on Roger's serve and then serve for the set successfully. In the second set, Roger was broken to fall behind 2-3 and committing too many errors - 32 in total - he was unable to fight back.

Nadal believes previous tennis eras cannot match the excitement generated by the current stars of the sport

"Sampras v Ivanisevic match, or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable, It's not really tennis, it is a few swings of the racquet. For me, in the past it was just serve, serve, serve."

Roger, I hope you continue to play as long as you enjoy playing. Your fans, including me, don't care what number they rank you. I want to see you on the courts for as long as I possibly can - win or lose!!! I hope you enjoy the holidays with your family.

I think you missed the point, ADI. Obviously it was reported, presumably by a Nadal fan who read more into it than was there - no names or facts mentioned, for one thing! - but why on earth do the mods comply while ignoring far more contentious stuff??

But, more to the point, thanks to Roger for treating us to some fabulous matches this past month or so. Wonderful to see him playing so freely again, and without pain. Every success to you in 2014,

Now that the 2013 season has ended, it is a good time to reminisce... You played majestically and exquisitely in Basel, Paris & London. Stunning tennis. It is nice to see that you are physically back in form with no 'niggles'. You did better against Djoko than Nadal, having a go at 3 sets.

A pleasure seeing you play @ the O2. Have a nice time with the family during Christmas & New Years. Your family must be so proud.

Noticed that your Mum was missing from the O2. Hope she is well.

It was a difficult match to play after the Del Potro's match effort. That one was a brillant play! Really great to see Roger play like that. Best of lucks for 2014. I KNOW you'll reclaim Wimbledon crown on 2014!

TRINAM, you know why? Because someone reported you, IMO it was someone who likes Nadal. If you can't win a WTF, no matter what the conditions are, you can't reclaim status THE GOAT. First of all, IMO WTF is very hard to win because you are playing with the very best, and we have to mention that Nadal is what it is because the courts are very slow.
