Federer levels record (Times Now)

The venue was different, the opponent was different but the result was the same. It was another smashing win from the racquet of Roger Federer in the finals of the Dubai Open against Mikhail Youzhny, and the Swiss ace crossed another milestone.

This despite a shaky start that saw Youzhny break Federer in the opening game and go up 2-0. But Federer shot back into the match in typical fashion, breaking Youzhny's serve and putting him back on track at 2 games each. Another break in the tenth game of the match and Federer had sealed the first set.

A win at Dubai puts the champion on par with Bjorn Borg's 4th highest total of most consecutive victories. And even as the Swedish legend watched from the stands, Federer broke in the second and sixth games of the second set to record his 41st consecutive victory. Guillermo Vilas with 47, Ivan Lendl with 44 and John McEnroe with 42, are the only players ahead of Federer with most consecutive wins.

No sooner does Roger Federer break one record than he seems to set his sights on another.

A few days after making it 161 consecutive weeks as world number one, breaking the record held by Jimmy Connors, the Swiss maestro defeated Russian Mikhail Youzhny in Saturday's Dubai Open final to equal Bjorn Borg's total of 41 wins in a row.

Record-setting Federer makes it four out of five in Dubai (Jurnalo)

Roger Federer stormed to his fourth title in five years at the Dubai Duty free on Saturday, his 6-4, 6-3 win over Russian Mikhail Youzhny pulling the Swiss level with Bjorn Borg in the record books.

World number 1 Federer stretched his current win streak to 41 straight matches, tying the Swede's mark set in 1979-1980.

Should he repeat his triumph at the Indian Wells Masters which ends in a fortnight at a desert venue in California, the 25-year-old world-beater would equal the all-time record of 46 victories on the trot from Argentine Guillermo Vilas from 1977.

Roger Federer won the Dubai Open for the fourth time in five years on Saturday, beating Mikhail Youzhny of Russia 6-4, 6-3 in the final.

Federer won his 41st straight match, tying Bjorn Borg for the fourth-longest streak in the Open era and leaving him five short of Guillermo Vilas' 1977 record. Ivan Lendl (44 in 1981-82) and John McEnroe (42 in 1984) also are in front of Federer.

Federer's Streak Reaches 41 Matches (Playfuls)

Roger Federer extended his amazing winning streak to 41 matches Saturday by winning the Dubai Tennis Championships. Federer defeated Mikhail Youzhny 6-4, 6-3 to win his seventh consecutive tournament. He is 12-0 this year, a stretch that includes the Australian Open.

His last setback came in the second round of the Masters Series tournament in Cincinnati last August.

Hi Roger,
You're the best and there's absolutely no doubt about it. But you're also down to earth: you know that streaks are a fine addition to winning tournaments, nothing more and nothing less. But do the media care? I already anticipate the conmotion
