Stefan Edberg joins team

27.12.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 3

I am happy to announce that beginning in Melbourne, Stefan Edberg will join Severin Lüthi on my coaching team. Severin, who has been part of my team for the last 7 years, will do most of the weeks and Stefan has agreed to work with us for at least 10 weeks starting at the Australian Open in Melbourne. Stefan was my childhood hero, and I am really looking forward to spending time and learning from him.

"I'm really excited to be part of Roger's team and I hope together we can bring out his best tennis," Stefan Edberg commented.

Severin Lüthi added: "Roger will play a full schedule next year so we both wanted to make sure we had a solid team in place. I want to continue to improve and innovate Roger's game and I really look forward to be working with Stefan. Like Roger, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Stefan and I am sure he will bring a lot to our team as Roger continues to chase titles in 2014."

Thanks for all the wonderful and informative posts Yukimi! Love reading them.

I have my fingers crossed for Fedberg. I am in the minority, but I think Becker might just help Novak.

Interestingly my views were similar on Agassi's marriages!

BECKER/DJOKO - I KIND OF WONDER...

DO YOU REMEMBER SHARAPOVA/CONNORS COACHING? - I DID NOT HAVE A GOOD FEELING - FELT LIKE A LAS VEGAS WEDDING.

TO SOUND VERY CRUDE, IT WAS AS IF SHE WOKE UP THE DAY AFTER AND SAID, "OMG, WHO IS THIS GUY AND WHAT IS HE DOING IN MY BED?"

LET THIS FACT ILLUSTRATE:
1. WHEN AGASSI MARRIED BROOKE SHIELDS, I SAID "FORGET IT" - THEY WERE DIVORCED VERY QUICKLY.
2. WHEN HE MARRIED STEFFI, I SAID "BINGO!"

I COULD BE WRONG ABOUT BECKER/DJOKO BUT I WONDER...

(CONT'D)

I THINK EDBERG IS BEING VERY CAUTIOUS AND HUMBLE - HE DOES NOT PRETEND HE WILL DO WONDERS MIRACULOUSLY ALL OF A SUDDEN.

AFTER THE SESSION HE SPENT W/ROG EARLIER, THE CHEMISTRY GAVE HIM THE CONFIDENCE - HE OBVIOUSLY HAS A FEEL FOR WHAT HE CAN CONTRIBUTE AND THINKS THAT 10 WEEKS SHOULD SUFFICE TO SEE IF ROG BENEFITS.

AFTER THAT, BASED ON THE RESULTS AND THE RESULTANT UNDERSTANDING, THEY WILL MAKE A SECOND DECISION.

THE ABOVE IS JUST MY SURMISE.

BECKER/DJOKO - I KIND OF WONDE

ALL SINGLE-HAND BACKHAND TENNIS PLAYERS PLEASE WATCH EDBERG'S LONG FOLLOW THROUGH BACKHAND GROUNDSTROKE UNTIL ITS VERY END...

....AND YOU WILL SEE THE RACQUET HEAD STILL FALL BACK EVEN FURTHER AFTER THE SWING BECAUSE HIS WRIST IS SO UTTERLY RELAXED - THERE IS NO TENSION AT ALL IN THE WRIST WHATSOEVER AND SO HE ACHIEVES MAXIMUM RACQUET HEAD, AND BALL, SPEED ....

WHICH IS ACHIEVED BY PURE FORM, HIS POSITIONING AND SWING TIMING.

10 WEEKS IS NOT SHORT , BUT NOT LONG EITHER (CONTD)

***FF AND OTHERS, THANK YOU

***Amolkeskar - AMAZING - ALMOST EVERYTHING YOU DID , I DID TOO.
I WATCHED EDB WIN WIMBLEDON LIVE FROM MY BED WHEN I WOKE UP IN SCRBRO, TORONTO WHEN I VISITED MY MOM FOR HER B-DAY

I JOKINGLY TELL OTHERS I TAUGHT EDBERG HIS BH(I NOTICED LATER THAT OURS WERE SIMILAR) - I AM LUCKY

ALL TENNIS PLAYERS PLEASE WATCH HIS LONG FOLLOW THROUGH BACKHAND GROUNDSTROKE UNTIL ITS VERY END AND YOU WILL SEE THE RACQUET FALL BACK EVEN FURTHER BECAUSE HIS WRIST IS SO UTTERLY REL

Wow thats great news. Incidently Edberg was my childhood hero as well. I more or less stopped watching tennis when he retired and was bored of watching Sampras at wimbledon. I starting watching tennis again when Federer beat Sampras. The best thing about Edberg was his solid volleys and ever reliable backhand which will be great use to Federer as we know that he is a bit weak in this wing. Great choice FEDER. GO GO GO
