A solid start

01.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger opened the new year with a solid 6-4, 6-2 win over Jarkko Nieminen in Brisbane.

Our champ took a 3-2 lead after a first break in the opening set. He was even more efficient in the second set, going up 4-0 and eventually securing the victory after 68 minutes of play.

Roger will now play Australia's Marinko Matosevic (ATP 61) - the two have never met so far.

In the doubles, Roger has also advanced to the next round alongside Nicolas Mahut, defeating Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau (HOL/ROU) 7-5, 7-6(5). They will now meet Jérémy Chardy/Grigor Dimitrov (FRA/BUL) or Colin Fleming/Ross Hutchins (GBR).

Dear Rogerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,

I'm back for a simple message: BE MENTALLY STRONG, ALWAYS. It seems now-a-days that this mental strength that was your nature has influenced players like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. I wish you will stay positive mentally & physically and prove to the world that the genius of ROGER FEDERER is still alive in body & spirit. Good luck in the New Year. I wish you and your family a happy new year 2014. We Love You - ALWAYS!!!

Dear Rogerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,

We want to see some adjustments to your game this brand new year. You need to revitalize yourself. Point # 1: Don't run to the net unless you are confident of winning the point. Point # 2: Keep a consistent serve & consistent backhand in crucial moments. Point # 3: You know well that your unforced errors are self-destructing & disgusting for fans to watch. Point # 4: Step outside the baseline corners to shoot shots down the line with speed & accuracy.

shots have returned, foot work and movement around the court superb [ as usual] inside out flatened FH appears to be working well and good attacking tennis.
One notices a number of suttle changes to your game-- some say it is too early for these following your weeks of training--I say that is not correct as some years ago can remember one of your coaches ?Tony Roche stating 'Teach Roger something and almost immediately he can/will do it'
Best of luck for QF
Kindest regards

Well done Roger!

It was a good start. Everything looks to be working fine. Keep it up.

Glad you're playing again, the wait felt like a long time.

Your new racquet seems really cool. I mean even I use a much bigger frame. Your other one leaves very little margin for error. Surely the change will work for you. It's great that you keep an open mind and keep adapting, you're smart.

All the best for your next singles and doubles matches. Take care. Happy 2014!
