A solid start

01.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger opened the new year with a solid 6-4, 6-2 win over Jarkko Nieminen in Brisbane.

Our champ took a 3-2 lead after a first break in the opening set. He was even more efficient in the second set, going up 4-0 and eventually securing the victory after 68 minutes of play.

Roger will now play Australia's Marinko Matosevic (ATP 61) - the two have never met so far.

In the doubles, Roger has also advanced to the next round alongside Nicolas Mahut, defeating Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau (HOL/ROU) 7-5, 7-6(5). They will now meet Jérémy Chardy/Grigor Dimitrov (FRA/BUL) or Colin Fleming/Ross Hutchins (GBR).

Talking of #Mr.RogerTennis do check out his link below.

Scroll down to read his article...Roger Federer: A Force of Nature...brilliant read.
Another fine read...'Ah Roger' by Ranjit Eswaran
And as an aside...if you are a cricket fanatic read 'A Player of Earth and Heaven' on the great Tendulkar by Rajneesh...again brilliant stuff

@Mr.RogerTennis...I'm right behind you on tonight's 2 set win and very necessary he makes it short and sweet, because tomorrow both the men's singles and doubles semifinal has to be played during the day (from 12pm) as the women's final for both singles and doubles is tomorrow night...I think that's correct.

Good luck Roger tonight. What an amazing treat it would be to see you play both singles and doubles tomorrow.

HELLO ALL,

Here is a Routine OVERHEAD SMASH BACKSPIN DROP SHOT THAT BOUNCES NEAR THE NET AT THE OPPONENT'S HALF AND SPINS BACK INTO ROGER'S HALF OF THE COURT.

FREAKY !!! GOAT !!

Someone please explain the physics of this shot ? How could some one produce so much back spin from an OVERHEAD smash ?????

Roger should win today in 2 sets.... since he is playing doubles, he should make sure he doesn't get into long matches! Things are heating up for the AO :)

Hello Roger,

A very good start of 2014 for all of us with your 2 doubles and 2nd round singles match. I love to see you having fun on the court while playing good tennis as well and those doubles showed us all of that. The Aussies really know how to celebrate their heros: I was truly moved by that epic poem about you and Rod Laver and had to hold back the tears at the same point you almost lost control of your emotions. Unforgettable moments.
Wishing you the best of luck in the 3rd round.
