Final vs. Hewitt

04.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has booked a spot in the Brisbane final after a 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 win over Jérémy Chardy (ATP 34).

Roger broke the Frenchman in the second game of the match, taking a 2-0 lead which he maintained to take the set. Neither of the players managed to score a break in the second set and it was Chardy who eventually claimed the set in the tiebreak (3-7). Roger secured another break towards the end of the decider, taking a 5-3 lead and then wrapping up the victory on his serve to love.

Roger will now meet an old rival - Lleyton Hewitt (ATP 60) - in Sunday's final.

Roger had already played Jérémy Chardy in the doubles the day before, Roger and Nicolas Mahut defeated Chardy and Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 11-9 in a tough match.

Oh, Roger.. :( I'm so sorry.. The first set was a nightmare.. You weren't even on the court. I didn't know what to think. In the second set, you fought back with passion. You showed that you want this title. The third set was full of opportunities, unfortunately, you didn't manage to convert any of them. It wasn't your day, I hope there's no issues! Good start of the season! Waiting to see you at AO in a great form!! Good luck!! I know you can do it!! Believe in you always!! Love you, Roger!! :)

WE ALL LOVE ROGER AND WANT IT ALL FOR HIM, BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO BE HONEST. AGAINST CHARDY HE PLAYED GREAT, TODAY HE DID NOT.
WE CANNOT BE BLIND FOLLOWERS AND ACT IF NOTHING IS THE MATTER.

I DO THINK HE WAS TIRED, SO KUDOS FOR MAKING IT TO 3 SETS, BUT HE HAS TO WORK ON SOME STUFF. AND LIKE HE SAYS HIMSELF IT MIGHT TAKE UP TO APRIL FOR HIM TO BE IN FULL FORM.

HE MADE ANOTHER FINAL. SADLY DID NOT WIN.

BUT STILL I WON'T GIVE UP ON ROGER. HE STILL CAN DO IT.
I KNOW THAT. LOVE YOU NO MATTER W

I wish I could be positive about this one. I've always been a huge fan of yours, Roger, but I have to admit I'm pretty disappointed... You got great momentum winning the second set and you also had many chances during the third, but more than 50 unforced errors, well, that's too much. Hewitt deserved it, but from my point of view it's you who lost the match, he 'didn't really win it by himself'. Anyway, forget it and now focus on the AO. Come on champ, we know you still have it!

HEY GUYS, I THINK YOU ALL NEED SOME HOPE AND A SILVER LINING TO LOOK FOR:

ROGER LOST HALLE 2012 TO HAAS AND THEN.... WON WIMBY 2012 WHEN NO ONE THOUGHT HE COULD AND THEY ALL WRITTEN HIM OFF.

I AM NOT A BLIND ROGER FOLLOWER, I HAVE NOT READ ANY OF THE COMMENTS SO FAR, BUT LETS BE HONEST, ROGER COULD HAVE DEFEATED HEWITT AND SADLY ROGER IS TO BLAME, CONGRATS TO HEWITT BUT HE DID NOT PLAY EXTRAORDINARY.

HOWEVER, EVENTHOUGH HE LOST, I AM NOT GIVING UP ON ROGER !!! EVER.
BAD DAY AT THE OFFIC

You have to wonder if Hewitt can beat Nadal, Djokovic and Murray.

everybody

roger himself wanted leyton to win. leyton an old veteran, a really nice guy, so many bad luck with his injurys playing a final in australia???? remember the final in halle against tommy haas, also a good friend and old veteran of the game??

roger is giving the crowd what they want and at this stage of his career he can because he has achieved everything he possibly can.

he is more satisfied by making others happy than to lift that trophy..a true gentleman with a big heart!!

@Pratik,

He didn't explain why he lost. I doubt he will, even in the press conference!
He just said "congratulations to Lleyton, he was better than me today."
