Final vs. Hewitt

04.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has booked a spot in the Brisbane final after a 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 win over Jérémy Chardy (ATP 34).

Roger broke the Frenchman in the second game of the match, taking a 2-0 lead which he maintained to take the set. Neither of the players managed to score a break in the second set and it was Chardy who eventually claimed the set in the tiebreak (3-7). Roger secured another break towards the end of the decider, taking a 5-3 lead and then wrapping up the victory on his serve to love.

Roger will now meet an old rival - Lleyton Hewitt (ATP 60) - in Sunday's final.

Roger had already played Jérémy Chardy in the doubles the day before, Roger and Nicolas Mahut defeated Chardy and Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 11-9 in a tough match.

i think he is surprised by Hewitt's form

As far as I can tell, Roger is moving gingerly, stretching his back etc.
I think long term injury avoidance should be the priority.

Hi everyone, This is frightening. Something is not right. Is he exhausted from yesterday?

I expected a close match but this is not even close and Roger seems to be not even there. Is he moving ok? I hope he is ok. If he is ok I know he can turn it around but he certainly was not getting into his game at the end of that set, that is worrying and suggesting a problem (back?) to me. Come ON Roger!

lets face it ....everyone knows fed is much better than hewiit and thos tornament is really not important........the real concern is if it is the back injury again then it could be really bad for the entire year.........he just not moving too much....first serve speed is down to 190 to 195

Participation in doubles compition was a mistake

Last year in Cinci, Rogi lost the first set to Haas like this 1-6 and then came back strong to win the match, I hope we see something like that again.

obviously the back injury has treturned......his first serve speed is 195 wheras it was consistently 200+ in the first few matches........this is bad
