Final vs. Hewitt

04.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has booked a spot in the Brisbane final after a 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 win over Jérémy Chardy (ATP 34).

Roger broke the Frenchman in the second game of the match, taking a 2-0 lead which he maintained to take the set. Neither of the players managed to score a break in the second set and it was Chardy who eventually claimed the set in the tiebreak (3-7). Roger secured another break towards the end of the decider, taking a 5-3 lead and then wrapping up the victory on his serve to love.

Roger will now meet an old rival - Lleyton Hewitt (ATP 60) - in Sunday's final.

Roger had already played Jérémy Chardy in the doubles the day before, Roger and Nicolas Mahut defeated Chardy and Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 11-9 in a tough match.

Still can't believe you lost the match, ohhhhhhh lot of opportunities through out the match, first set disaster, second one played like a champ,, third one many opportunity to break the serve. Hope to see you playing aggressive tennis @ AUS open. Good Luck

Roger looks composed enough, looking at the positives, so that's a plus.
Just hope he's 100% physically!

Gotta keep my eyes peeled for the Finals press conference.

Here's the Semis press conference:

Although Roger lost, I can say I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far this tournament. It was clear today wasn't Rogers day, but it's a start. Today a final, tomorrow a thropy. And I hope he's not injured or anything. And I think Roger should skip the doubles for a while.

Well, a final to forget. I think it was really important for Roger to win this his first tournament of the year, but it was not meant to be. Overall I also think that compared to last year Roger's confidence level seems to be up. That first set was surreal - Roger at his worst has never played like this. I hope there isn't anything wrong with your body Roger, please take care...love you MUCHO
