Final vs. Hewitt

04.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has booked a spot in the Brisbane final after a 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 win over Jérémy Chardy (ATP 34).

Roger broke the Frenchman in the second game of the match, taking a 2-0 lead which he maintained to take the set. Neither of the players managed to score a break in the second set and it was Chardy who eventually claimed the set in the tiebreak (3-7). Roger secured another break towards the end of the decider, taking a 5-3 lead and then wrapping up the victory on his serve to love.

Roger will now meet an old rival - Lleyton Hewitt (ATP 60) - in Sunday's final.

Roger had already played Jérémy Chardy in the doubles the day before, Roger and Nicolas Mahut defeated Chardy and Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 11-9 in a tough match.

It's done ! So sad for Roger. I cannot work that one out, I just do not understand. It is almost as if Roger became demoralised getting so many break points but not able to take them, but I am only going by watching scores and not able to watch the match. The play of the third set seemed to be going his way but then ?
No doubt good match practise this week for Rog and also good practise with new racquet. I had hoped for a win to boost Rogers confidence? Bring on Stefan, you have a job to do !

I like to see you play more aggresively. It seems that you had problems moving around. Maybe you need to concentrate your footwork. Hope to see you improve and be better in the future.

Disgraceful to watch....totally not Federer. You seemed to have started it well this tounament but sorry to say this Final wasn't you at all. You tried to make something out of it and came back strong by taken the second set in the end. Then again so many breakpoints not converterd, it's a shame. Well i hope you take your learnings out of this one and go on and win the big one, the one that matters the most. the Australian Open...Come on Roger, without you it ain't fun to watch tennis...

Positive balance, first tournament, first final. It was a good preparation for the AO.

Happy to see Roger playing confident with the new racquet.
