Roger defeated in final

05.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger was defeated by Llyeton Hewitt in the Brisbane final 1-6, 6-4, 3-6.

"I didn't play great today which is a bit unfortunate. But also Lleyton was the best player I played this week. He made it toughest on me. So I have a clear idea what I need to work on, and I have a clear idea where my mind and body is at. I'm very hungry and eager to attack the Australian Open next week," Roger said. The Open starts on January 13th.

Roger committed a total of 22 unforced errors in the opening set and was broken three times. He fought back in the second set, securing it thanks to a break in in the ninth game. But our champ dropped his serve once again in the fourth game of the decider and unfortunately could not make use of his seven break points, eventually having to admit defeat after 2h 07.

I do give credit when credit is due--Whatever one thinks Lleyton played well and won [Roger also gave him credit saying that he was the best player that he played in Brisbane]I have watched many matches LIVE between those 2 men.
I wrote about Roger first than Lleyton--in future shall do so again if the occasion arises--no ifs or buts.
***Several good posts for Roger***

Thank you for your support much appreciated.
Similar to many, my time is precious therefore when I do come to RF.com[I was one who, when Roger came onto the scene wrote and asked if he would be setting up a website, therefore am one of the orginals] I scroll to find posters that I like to read. After all of these years and those that know me and my great love for Roger as a tennis player and person would know that I would ALWAYS comment on Roger first & foremost. On the other hand

The most important thing for me is that your body has held up and as Dutclhady mentioned in her excellent post that you may have been a little sore yesterday and therefore a little cautious--quite understandable.
Now on to Melbourne ... a group of us will be at the dinner & exho for Roger & Friends then of course the AO--exciting times.
Thank you for last week-- as the TD said ' Roger transcends tennis"
Kindest regards
Margaret

Hello Roger
As usual we enjoyed your post match interview--ALWAYS respectful of your opponent--thank you. Having read Rod Laver's memoir one is able to understand why he asked you to write the forward for it--your love and attitudes to tennis, family and life in general are very similar.
We were in Brisbane from Jan 2 2014 and what a pleasure it was to be amongst happy people each day related to a great extent to Roger Federer being in town'
Excellent post match speeches from both of you.

@RF4World So true. Always thank you for your links, and kind world and words of encouragement. Those of us who love our Maestro all felt his pain. But kudos to a champion who keeps trying to improve. He has the courage to change his racket. I am sure that is so hard for any tennis pro to do that. But he is trying. He is so humble knowing that all these changes will deter some part of his game.

A seed is planted. It dies. But a new shoot will be born. It will grow big ! In time.

Good luck in OA

If Roger faces Hewitt at the AO he'll have to defy a ton of opposition. Playing an Aussie trained by an Aussie in Melbourne with an Aussie packed stadium, and with Darren Cahill commentating.
