Roger defeated in final

05.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger was defeated by Llyeton Hewitt in the Brisbane final 1-6, 6-4, 3-6.

"I didn't play great today which is a bit unfortunate. But also Lleyton was the best player I played this week. He made it toughest on me. So I have a clear idea what I need to work on, and I have a clear idea where my mind and body is at. I'm very hungry and eager to attack the Australian Open next week," Roger said. The Open starts on January 13th.

Roger committed a total of 22 unforced errors in the opening set and was broken three times. He fought back in the second set, securing it thanks to a break in in the ninth game. But our champ dropped his serve once again in the fourth game of the decider and unfortunately could not make use of his seven break points, eventually having to admit defeat after 2h 07.

Sorry Roger, you should have won this one. You were better player in the second set, and especially in third. Still there are problems with important points. i hope you can resolve them.
Good luck at AO!

Hewitt's press conference:

Interesting where he mentions Roger! He's actually quite a thoughtful talker!

☆ Yukimi Thanks for quoting me, we're always rooting for Roger and no one is like him, why we love this sport and tennis brings us great learning and also besides seeing friends here. Roger unites all countries, a reunion of friends in the world. Thanks again Yukimi!!! ☆

I am very disappointed. All week Roger played really well whereas Nadal was struggling. Nadal won his tournament and Roger didn't. This vicious circle has to be broken. Lleyton is a fighter but he isn't nearly as good as Roger. This really shows that something has to change and fast. I was very confident until now. Come on Rog, show no mercy, fight for each point.

I agree, but that's more the influence of modern American English than incorrect usage per se.
"I'm doing good", "it hurts bad", "I got here as quick as I could"

It's omnipresent in today's pop culture!
(And to think 'My Fair Lady' laments half a century ago "Why can't the English teach their children how to speak?"!)

The two positive things about this loss are:
1-Roger will work harder this week since he has more issues to solve and more conditioning to do.
2-Roger now has a grudge match against: Hewwitt, Monfils, Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, Robredo, Tsonga, Delpo,Delbonis, Shathovsky, Nishikory, Berdych, and Benneteau. By grudge match I mean those matches when Roger is mad at his rival and he plays better than ever, he gets in the Godmode and destroys his rival. Two examples: Murray WTF 2010, Nadal WTF 2011.

Dear Roger: I saw the match and for the first time in my life I saw kind of a weak decition making on your part, specially on the first set. The unforced errors didn´t quite help but i beleive that U volleyed a little long most of the time, all of that will luckyly be adapted by melbourne with the new coach helping you with the new racquet. however, i still beleive you need more tourneys in your schedule, at least 4 more: Rotterdam, Monaco, Washington and Beijing.Hope U also Add Oeiras & Vienna

if he had played with Nikishori he had lost before

Thanks Shatir - Yes a positive upbeat interview. My one criticism Roger's like so many other sportsmen's usage of an adjective instead of an adverb, eg. "I played consistent or aggressive" It should be "consistently, and aggressively" It gets up my nose! No excuse for Roger, having an English speaking Mama!
