Australian Open: the draw

10.01.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

The coming Australian Open is Roger's 57th consecutive Grand Slam tournament. He will meet Australia's James Duckworth (ATP 134) in the opening round. He would then play the winner of the match between Radek Stepanek (ATP 45) and Blaz Kavcic (ATP 102).

Likely opponents after that are: Fernando Verdasco (round three), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (round of the last sixteen) or last year's finalist Andy Murray (quarters).
Rafael Nadal is in the same half of the draw as Roger - the two legends could meet in the semi-finals.

RFINISHED
Yr earlier post fr Dutchlady - no one was able 2 engage in long rallies with Roger when he was playing his best tennis, except may b Nadal on clay. Roger hd the talent 2 finish the pt, which unfortunately he cannot now, with age. The way Nadal and esp Djoker hv mastered the art of keeping the ball in play - thats also truly praiseworthy but for how long can they continue.....only time will tell.

YUKI,you are so right.I can't explain why this happened,he could be at the top 10 for a long time. What is said by the press here,is that he had some serious family problems, then he got married and then his child was born.He said last year, that he was now ready for a new start,i saw he lost weight, too, his game against Djokovic in AO last year was very promising, but i think it's not so easy to make a comeback, just because your heart wants it.We'll see this year, but he isn't getting any younger.

HULIETTA***
BAGDHATIS IS THE ONE I'm REALLY SAD ABOUT - SO MUCH PROMISE THAT GRANDSLAM A FEW YEARS BACK BARELY LOSING TO ROGER IN THE FINAL, BUT NOW FALLING SO FAR BY THE WAYSIDE AND UNABLE TO RETURN - SUCH A GREAT LOSS - SO SAD TO SEE.

ONE OF THE GENUINELY LIKEABLE PLAYERS WHOM I WANT SO MUCH TO SEE SUCCEED.
